Role Overview & Key Responsibilities

The Team Lead, Construction drives UBA Tanzania’s corporate and commercial banking business across the construction, engineering, and infrastructure sectors. The role manages a specialized portfolio team to acquire corporate clients, structure project/trade finance and credit facilities, grow low-cost deposit liabilities, and manage sector-specific credit risk.

• Business Acquisition & Portfolio Growth: Lead client acquisition efforts across construction firms, contractors, and infrastructure developers; meet and exceed targets for PBT/revenue, risk assets, bank guarantees, deposits, and FX transactions.

• Credit Evaluation & Risk Control: Screen credit applications, write comprehensive credit memoranda, and monitor risk triggers, conditions, and covenants; initiate recovery measures for watch-listed or non-performing accounts within the portfolio.

• Site Inspections & Client Engagement: Conduct regular site visits to assess project progress, physical plant, equipment, and collateral; maintain regular contact with client C-suite executives and serve as a single point of contact.

• Tailored Product Solutions: Partner with Product Development to structure sector-specific banking solutions, including performance bonds, advance payment guarantees, letter of credit facilities, and tenured investments.

• Team Leadership & Research: Supervise, mentor, and track performance targets for direct and indirect reporting Relationship Officers; analyze industry trends, regulations, and risk profiles to protect bank assets.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: First degree in a Business-related field or Social Sciences from a recognized university. (Higher degrees, MBA, or professional banking certifications are an added advantage).

• Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive commercial banking experience, with direct exposure to Corporate Banking credit, relationship management, and the Construction/Infrastructure sector.

• Core Competencies: Deep knowledge of construction sector financing, contractor facilities, bank guarantees, credit appraisal, and risk asset management.

• Leadership & Soft Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, business acumen, sales and marketing drive, cross-functional team leadership, and superior communication skills.
