Role Summary

The Human Resources Officer provides operational HR support to the Country Human Resources Management and business units across forestry plantations, timber processing facilities, and head office functions.

The role is responsible for delivering core human resources services across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, training coordination, and HR administration, in compliance with Tanzanian labor laws, company policies, and international standards (e.g., FSC, IFC where applicable).

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Coordinate end-to-end recruitment processes, including job advertising, shortlisting, interview scheduling, and reference checks.
  • Prepare employment contracts and offer letters in line with company policies.
  • Facilitate onboarding and induction programmes for new employees, ensuring completion of all required documentation and orientation activities.
  • Maintain recruitment trackers and provide regular status updates to management.

HR Administration & Employee Records

  • Maintain accurate employee records.
  • Administer employment documentation, including contracts, confirmations, transfers, and exits.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (e.g., NSSF, WCF, PAYE, SDL).
  • Manage records, attendance data, and other HR metrics.

Employee Relations & Industrial Relations

  • Support the Country HR Manager in handling employee relations issues, including disciplinary processes and grievance management.
  • Assist in investigations, documentation, and ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
  • Promote positive employee engagement and workplace culture aligned with company values.

Performance Management

  • Coordinate the implementation of performance management processes, including goal setting, appraisals, and probation reviews.
  • Track completion of performance cycles and provide reporting to management.
  • Support managers with performance improvement plans where required.

Training & Development

  • Coordinate training programmes, including logistics, attendance tracking, and evaluation.
  • Maintain employee training records and support skills development initiatives.
  • Assist with implementation of capacity-building programmes across forestry and processing operations.

Compliance & Policy Implementation

  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian labour legislation and internal HR policies.
  • Support implementation and monitoring of HR policies, procedures, and audits.
  • Assist in maintaining HR documentation in line with FSC certification and ESG/IFC requirements where applicable.

Payroll & Benefits Support

  • Support payroll preparation by ensuring accurate and timely submission of employee data (leave, overtime, allowances, etc.).
  • Assist with administration of employee benefits, including medical aid and pension schemes.
  • Respond to employee queries related to payroll and benefits.

Reporting & HR Analytics

  • Prepare monthly HR reports, including headcount, turnover, absenteeism, and recruitment status.
  • Assist in workforce planning and HR budgeting processes.
  • Maintain HR dashboards and data accuracy.

Health, Safety & Welfare Support

  • Support HR-related aspects of health, safety, and welfare initiatives.
  • Ensure employees are inducted and trained on workplace policies and safety standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety and compliance across operations.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ HR experience, preferably in agriculture, forestry, or industrial operations
  • Knowledge of Tanzanian labour laws and statutory requirements
  • Experience supporting multi-site or operational environments is advantageous

  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Preferable previous experience with VIP Payroll
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, operational environment
