Overview

The RTI University Collaboration Office seeks a prospect for the Act East Internship, Tanzania within the International Development Group (IDG).

Through the Act to End Neglected Tropical Diseases| East programs, RTI’s International Development Group empowers governments of endemic countries to lead national NTD control programs and scale up the delivery of preventive chemotherapy for the seven most common NTDs.

The selected intern will receive a brief overview of Act East and the work done in the selected neglected tropical disease(s) (trachoma, schistosomiasis, onchocerciasis, or lymphatic filariasis etc.)

Learning Objectives:
Strengthen program communication, system thinking, and data analysis skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop communication materials (e.g., fact sheets, infographics, presentations, social media posts) on the selected neglected tropical disease(s) for various stakeholders (e.g., community members, policymakers, donors).
  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders to present and discuss the communication materials.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for improving the health systems, including the integration of neglected tropical disease programs into existing health systems in relation to Act East
  • Collect and analyze data from various sources (e.g., surveys, health records, program reports).
  • Conduct statistical analyses to identify trends and patterns in the data.
    Interpret the results of the data analyses in the context of the epidemiology of the selected neglected tropical disease(s).
  • Synthesize the findings into actionable recommendations for program implementation and policy development.
  • Communication materials developed and presented to stakeholders.
  • Analysis of health systems and identification of opportunities for improvement.
  • Data collection and analysis report with recommendations for program implementation and policy development.

Additional Information

This virtual academic credit internship will take place from June 2023 through August 2023. A stipend will be provided for any project related travel. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Must be local to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
  • Currently enrolled graduate student studying Public Health, Epidemiology
  • Eligible to receive academic credit
