Technical Product Designer (Internship)

Functional Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Information Management and Analytics Advisor (ISC-11), the intern will support the design and development of a digital tool to present key findings, outputs, and analysis from PSC’s geospatial and analytical support services for emergency response and reconstruction efforts. This tool will facilitate data visualization, improve accessibility, and enhance engagement with stakeholders, including UN agencies, government partners, and humanitarian actors.

At the end of this internship, the successful candidate will have gained experience in:

Exposure to an international, multicultural work environment within a UN entity;
Hands-on experience in geospatial data visualization, dashboard development, and user-centered design;
Practical application of data analysis and reporting tools in a real-world disaster response and reconstruction context;
Collaboration with senior professionals and technical experts, learning from their expertise and gaining insights into digital innovation for peace and security.

The successful candidate may be required to work on the following:

Tool Design and Development

Assist in the design and prototyping of an interactive digital tool to display geospatial and analytical outputs, using technologies such as Looker Studio, Esri products, or open-source alternatives;
Work with GIS, IM, and Data Analytics experts to define user requirements, ensuring alignment with stakeholder needs;
Support the integration of satellite imagery, 3D models, damage assessment reports, and rubble volume estimations into the tool for streamlined visualization.

Data Visualization and Analysis

Assist in creating custom dashboards, maps, and reports to present project findings in an intuitive and accessible format;
Integrate the data analysis to highlight key insights from building footprint segmentation, damage assessments, and rubble estimation analyses;
Support the automation of data processing workflows for improved efficiency.

Education/Experience/Language requirements:

Education

Candidates must be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed (within 3 years prior to the application date of the internship) a Master’s Degree in developmental studies, political science, international relations or related field.

Experience

Relevant experience is defined as experience or coursework in data visualization, dashboard development, or web-based tools.

Familiarity with GIS tools (Esri, QGIS), Google Looker Studio, Python, or JavaScript for web-based visualizations is desired;
Experience supporting the analysis of datasets and translating findings into interactive visual representations is desired.

Language Requirements

Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) is required.
