FREO2 Foundation (FREO2) is a global non-profit committed to reducing child mortality from respiratory failure in low-resource settings. Respiratory failure claims the lives of over 1.6 million children under the age of five every year. This includes fatalities from pneumonia, birth asphyxia and preterm births. Partnering with remote governments, healthcare facilities and other NGOs, we ensure that oxygen reaches areas where its impact is most valued. 

About the Role 

FREO2 is seeking a Technical Operations Lead to manage and facilitate implementation, and maintenance of our oxygen systems across health facilities in Tanzania. This role combines technical expertise and project management skills to ensure the success of our oxygen delivery projects. 

Key Responsibilities 

As the Technical Operations Manager, some of your key focus areas will be: 

  1. Technical Leadership: Oversee maintenance and implementation programs, manage equipment inventories, carry-out equipment servicing, and ensure continuous system monitoring. 
  2. Project Management: Coordinate project timelines, budgets, and resources; set up FREO2 hubs; conduct assessments; and develop solutions with in-country and global teams. 
  3. Training & Development: Train technical teams and healthcare workers on equipment use and maintenance; organize ongoing medical education. 
  4. Team Management: Lead and support the Tanzanian technical team, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. 
  5. Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with health facilities, suppliers, and contractors; represent FREO2 in technical presentations. 
  6. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain service records, provide progress reports, and develop user guides. 
What You Bring 
  • Bachelor’s or advanced Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  •  5 years of professional experience in medical equipment, including maintenance. 
  • Proven project management experience, preferably in a healthcare setting. 
  • Experience in training and leading technical teams and proficiency with a variety of testing and repair tools. Strong understanding of medical device regulations and standards. 
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills. 
  • Excellent systems thinking and process-driven mindset.
