Job Brief
Felixstowe International Academy is looking for a visionary and dynamic Principal / Head of Pre & Primary School with a strong Cambridge International Curriculum background. The successful candidate will provide executive leadership, strategic direction, and academic oversight across the daycare, preschool, and primary school levels. This role demands a passionate educational leader capable of maintaining rigorous Cambridge academic standards, mentoring a high-performing teaching team, driving school growth, and creating a supportive, inclusive, and child-centered learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Curriculum Leadership: Oversee the implementation, delivery, and quality assurance of the Cambridge Early Years and Cambridge Primary frameworks, ensuring alignment with international best practices.
- Academic & Operational Management: Direct day-to-day school operations, manage academic timetables, asset allocation, and oversee educational events, ceremonies, and extracurricular programs.
- Staff Supervision & Development: Recruit, mentor, observe, and evaluate teaching and support staff, fostering a culture of continuous professional development and instructional excellence.
- Student Achievement & Well-being: Monitor student academic progress, implement learning support systems, and ensure high standards of student welfare, discipline, and safeguarding.
- Parent & Community Engagement: Maintain open, transparent communication with parents, leading parent-teacher conferences, workshops, and building a strong school-community partnership.
- Policy & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce institutional policies, ensuring full compliance with national educational regulations, child safety standards, and Cambridge accreditation requirements.
- Resource & Budget Management: Assist executive leadership in managing school budgets, instructional resources, learning facilities, and classroom expansions.
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Primary Education, or a related field. (A Master’s degree in Education/Leadership or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education is highly preferred).
Experience
- Minimum of 5–7 years of educational leadership experience (e.g., Headteacher, Principal, Head of Department) within an international school setting.
- Proven track record and direct experience in delivering and managing the Cambridge International Curriculum (Pre-Primary and Primary levels).
Skills & Competencies
- Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of Cambridge Primary assessment frameworks, curriculum mapping, educational technology tools, and school management information systems (MIS).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership, strategic planning, public speaking, cultural sensitivity, emotional intelligence, and crisis management capabilities.
