BBC News Swahili brings quality, impartial, original journalism to Bengali-speaking audiences in Bangladesh and around the world on digital, radio and TV. BBC Swahili reaches an average of 28 million people on a weekly basis through its multimedia content, available on website www.bbc.com/swahili, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok and on linear platforms (Radio and TV).
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are looking for a creative and skilled Journalist (Video Producer) with a sharp editorial instinct and strong experience in producing native video content for platforms like YouTube Shorts/mid forms, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Facebook. You will be responsible for pitching, scripting, filming, editing, and publishing compelling short- and mid-form video content, ensuring it is tailored for digital-native audiences and aligned with the BBC Swahili tone and BBC editorial standards.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Pitch innovative, platform-specific ideas for short videos and mid-length explainers targeting Swahili-speaking audiences.
Script, film, and edit videos independently using mobile equipment /Camera and editing tools like FCP, CapCut, or Adobe Premiere.
Craft story formats and visual storytelling techniques that suit each platform natively.
Ensure high editorial and technical quality across all output.
Repurpose traditional radio and TV content into social-first video formats.
Collaborate with editorial teams and social media leads to tailor content for audience engagement and growth.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Demonstrated experience producing short-form content for TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts/mid forms, or similar platforms.
Strong scripting, mobile filming/camera and self-editing skills using tools like CapCut, FCP or Adobe Suite.
Strong understanding of social video storytelling — what hooks viewers in the first 3 seconds, what makes them watch to the end.
Familiarity with platform trends, audience behaviours, and underserved audience needs.
Ability to present or work closely with presenters would be a plus.
Experience using social listening/search tools such as TikTok Creator Search, Google Trends, or NewsWhip (internal only).
