Finance Department – Intern Staff, Fixed Term of 1 Year contract
Location: Mwanza Tanzania
Reports to; Finance and Administration Manager
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Providing support to the Finance Team, other World Renew Departments, and partners as requested and directed by the head of the department.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assisting the Finance Manager with accounting and financial activities, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Assisting in the monthly reconciliation for World Renew and Partners’ Bank Statements, staff advances, and clearance on the system.
Assisting in the verification process of retirements from staff and monthly financial reports from partners.
Assisting, when necessary, in keeping the financial records of World Renew in the accounting system, maintenance of general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, and journal entry preparation and posting of operating expenditures in collaboration with other members of the finance team.
Perform other accounting duties and special projects as assigned.
Assisting in performing the reviews and verification of bills for payment and invoices for payment and coding.
Supporting in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements under the supervision of the Finance Manager.
Reconciliation of monthly petty cash records, receipts, and expenditures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A committed and mature Christian who can articulate his or her faith at work with other team members.
Minimum of 1 year work experience in a position with similar responsibilities, preferably with a faith-based NGO, or a financial/ banking institution.
Proficient in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio), and Web Conferencing Applications. A knowledge of SAGE accounting systems or similar financial reporting software is preferred.
High standards of integrity, stewardship, and accountability as confirmed by referees and past work experience.
Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and cross-cultural communication and presentation skills and sensitivity to local and global socio-political contexts.
Experience working cross-culturally, especially with North Americans is an asset.
Some experience in the management of private and corporate donor-funded projects is also a definite asset.
EDUCATION
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration with courses in accounting or a qualification in accounting (ATEC)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent in written and spoken English and Kiswahili languages.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Travel up to 10-15% of the time to rural project areas within Tanzania- mostly Geita, Mara, Shinyanga, Tabora, Kagera and Kigoma. Travel and accommodation in difficult rural areas with limited access to many services such as running water and electricity.
