Hugo Calderano Opens WTT Champions Campaign With Straight-Games Win

Hugo Calderano beat Nicholas Lum 3–0 on 8 September, opening WTT Champions Macao with scores of 11–4, 11–9 and 11–6. The line looks clean; the match was not uniform. Calderano controlled the first game, had to respond after Lum edged ahead in the second, then began the third with a 6–0 run. Those shifts also matter when bettors bet on table tennis, because the final match score preserves none of the tension inside individual games. Calderano never dropped one, but the route from his comfortable opener to the final point changed twice along the way.

Calderano Takes Control Before Lum Can Settle

The second game required Calderano to respond while behind, protect a newly created advantage and finish after the first opportunities had gone. The final two-point margin was also much narrower than either of his other wins.

Calderano did not carry the tension of the second game into the third.

He opened 6–0.

Lum recovered enough points to make the final score 11–6. Calderano still finished with a five-point margin and ended the match without requiring a fourth game.

One Round Is Complete, With a Larger Test Still Ahead
