Role Overview & Key Responsibilities

The Team Lead, Oil & Gas / Energy drives UBA Tanzania’s corporate and commercial banking expansion within the petroleum, natural gas, and broader energy sectors. The role leads a specialized sector team to acquire corporate accounts, structure trade and energy finance solutions, grow deposit liabilities, and manage sector-specific credit risk.

  • Business Development & Portfolio Growth: Drive client acquisition across upstream, midstream, and downstream oil, gas, and energy firms; meet and exceed targets for PBT/revenue, risk assets, bank guarantees, low-cost deposits, and foreign exchange transactions.

  • Credit Structuring & Risk Management: Screen credit applications, write comprehensive credit memoranda, and track approved risk triggers, conditions, and covenants; initiate recovery measures for watch-listed or non-performing facilities.

  • Site Visits & Client Engagement: Conduct routine customer site visits to inspect downstream installations, storage depots, infrastructure, and collateral; maintain regular engagement with C-suite energy executives. Team Lead, Oil & Gas /Energy Job Vacancy at UBA Bank

  • Tailored Product Solutions & Research: Partner with Product Development to structure sector-tailored banking solutions, letters of credit, and tenured investment products; monitor energy sector regulations, commodity price trends, and market shifts.

  • Team Leadership & Performance: Direct, mentor, and evaluate direct and indirect reporting Relationship Managers and Officers, ensuring adequate support to meet individual and sector commercial targets.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: First degree in a Business-related field or Social Sciences from a recognized university. (Higher degrees, MBA, or relevant professional banking certifications are an added advantage).

  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive commercial banking experience, with direct exposure to Corporate Banking credit, relationship management, and the Oil & Gas / Energy sector.

  • Core Competencies: Expert knowledge of energy trade finance, petroleum downstream/upstream financing, credit appraisal, structured facilities, and risk asset management.

  • Leadership & Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, strategic negotiation skills, sales leadership, cross-functional team management, and executive communication abilities.
