Zambia Cargo and Logistics Limited (ZCL) is a regional logistics service provider and wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) through the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) with terminals in Tanzania (Dar Es Salaam), Walvis Bay (Namibia) and operating centre in Ndola, Zambia.
Zambia Cargo and Logistics (ZCL) is inviting applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to be considered for employment to fill the vacant position listed hereunder.
Tally Clerk – 1 Post
Required Qualification
Holder of a Form IV Certificate or Diploma in Logistics and Transport, Supply Chain Management, Warehouse Operations, Business Administration, or any related field from a recognized institution.
At least three (3) years of working experience, with a minimum of two (2) years in tallying, warehouse operations, cargo handling, or inventory control.
Basic knowledge of computer applications, including Excel or warehouse management systems (WMS).
Attributes
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and integrity when recording cargo movement.
Strong understanding of warehouse, ICD, or port operations, including loading/offloading processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Count and record all incoming and outgoing goods, ensuring that the quantities match the accompanying shipping or delivery documents.
- Verify cargo against bills of lading, packing lists, and invoices, ensuring that there are no discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all goods received or dispatched from the warehouse.
- Inspect cargo for any visible damage or defects upon receipt, reporting any issues to the Warehouse Supervisor or Operations Manager.
- Ensure that cargo is properly labeled, marked, and classified according to warehouse procedures and industry regulations.
- Assist in verifying the weight, dimensions, and contents of shipments when required.
- Complete and maintain all relevant documentation for inbound and outbound shipments, including tally sheets, delivery notes, and stock records.
- Enter data into inventory systems to track the movement of goods and update stock levels.
- Prepare daily or weekly reports on cargo tallies, including any discrepancies or issues encountered.
- Assist in the periodic stock-taking and inventory checks, ensuring that the physical stock matches the records in the system.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or overages to the Warehouse Supervisor.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of goods to minimize losses or damage.
- Work closely with forklift operators and warehouse staff to ensure that cargo is moved and stored in the correct locations.
- Communicate with the logistics and transport team to ensure timely loading and unloading of goods.
- Assist in planning and organizing the movement of cargo to ensure efficient use of warehouse space.
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in cargo tallies or shipment records, reporting significant issues to management.
- Liaise with drivers, suppliers, or clients to clarify any differences in cargo quantities or documentation.
- Address issues related to cargo damage or mislabeling, ensuring that corrective actions are taken promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and warehouse procedures while handling cargo.
- Follow proper safety guidelines when operating equipment or handling goods, ensuring that workplace hazards are minimized.
- Report any safety concerns or incidents to the Warehouse Supervisor or Safety Officer.
- Contribute to the development of new tallying systems or tools to improve accuracy and efficiency in record-keeping.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by a competent authority.
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments and handle physical tasks when required.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with warehouse teams, transporters, and supervisors.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work shifts, weekends, or extended hours as needed.
