Job Purpose

The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying software applications tailored for Linux-based environments. Reporting to engineering leadership, this role automates system workflows, administers Linux servers, manages CI/CD pipelines, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver secure and scalable enterprise software solutions.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Software Development & Code Governance:

    • Design, develop, test, and maintain robust software applications and web services.

    • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code adhering to SDLC best practices.

    • Manage source code via Git and participate in Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) workflows.

    • Build and integrate REST APIs and relational database structures (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).

  • Linux Administration & Operational Automation:

    • Install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Linux servers (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, Rocky Linux).

    • Develop shell scripts (Bash) and automation tools to streamline operational workflows.

    • Implement system-level security controls and Linux security best practices.

  • System Monitoring & Continuous Delivery:

    • Monitor application performance, resolve production issues, and provide timely bug fixes.

    • Partner with DevOps, Quality Assurance (QA), and Infrastructure teams to ensure smooth application deployments.

    • Conduct code reviews and recommend continuous architectural improvements.

Candidate Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field.

Work Experience & Core Competencies:

  • At least 3 years of professional software development experience.

  • Linux Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, Rocky Linux).

  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in one or more core languages: Python, Java, C++, Go, or C#.

  • Scripting & Databases: Strong command of Bash/shell scripting and relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).

  • Version Control & Web Protocols: Hands-on experience with Git, REST APIs, and standard web services.

Preferred Qualifications (Added Advantage):

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Familiarity with Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).

  • Experience with configuration management (Ansible, Puppet, Chef) and monitoring stack (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).

  • Linux Certifications: Recognized credentials such as RHCSA, RHCE, LPIC, or CompTIA Linux+.
