Job Purpose

The Senior Manager, Recovery is responsible for developing, directing, and executing overall recovery strategies for non-performing assets at Akiba Commercial Bank PLC. The role focuses on maximizing debt recovery, minimizing overall credit losses, maintaining effective arrears management, and leading a high-performing recovery team while remaining fully compliant with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategy & Policy Execution: Formulate, implement, and continuously refine robust recovery strategies, operational workflows, and policies to reduce Non-Performing Loans (NPLs).

• Portfolio Management: Actively monitor non-performing and impaired credit facilities to ensure timely and proactive intervention.

• Asset Realization & Action Plans: Recommend and execute optimal recovery options, including loan restructuring, out-of-court settlements, litigation, and collateral liquidations.

• Vendor & Team Supervision: Lead, coach, and manage the internal Recovery Team. Oversee and evaluate the performance of external vendors, including debt collectors, law firms, and auctioneers. Senior Manager, Recovery

• Performance Tracking & Reporting: Prepare detailed recovery plans, impairment forecasts, recovery portfolio reports, and regular updates for senior management and board committees.

• Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Ensure all recovery actions adhere strictly to internal risk management frameworks, statutory laws, and Bank of Tanzania (BoT) regulatory guidelines. Identify emerging portfolio risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

• Delegated Duties: Execute any other related duties as assigned by executive management from time to time.

Candidate Specifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Economics, or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.

• Overall Experience: Minimum of 10 years of overall experience within the banking or financial services sector.

• Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a dedicated managerial position specializing in credit recovery, distressed asset management, or loan restructuring.

• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of credit risk frameworks, debt recovery strategies, insolvency procedures, collateral realization, and Tanzanian banking laws.

• Core Competencies: Exceptional analytical skills, high-level negotiation capabilities, strong leadership instincts, and clear communication skills.
