Research Manager Vacancy at Marie Stopes

The Role:

We are looking for an active and qualified individual for the following role:

Research Manager:

LOCATION: DAR ES SALAAM

The Research Manager is responsible to conduct high-quality research and programme monitoring activities to support MST’s core business and projects.

The Research Manager will report to Head of Health Management Information System (HMIS) and Research, Monitoring & Evaluation (RME) to support the implementation of RME activities and analyse research studies and routine programme monitoring data.

The role will entail close collaboration with data quality leads globally and in MST’s country office to ensure high data quality standards across MSI’s global management information systems (MIS). The role will also involve collaboration with the Global Support Office’s Evidence Focal Point and MSI’s Global Evidence Network/ RME Community of Practice.

Among the Key Responsibilities:

Key responsibility 1: Support the strategic research design, implementation, and dissemination

Support the implementation of MSI global research protocols, such as the Exit Interview and Mystery Client Surveys, according to the standardised protocols.
Support designing of project evaluations including reviewing consultancy works to ensure they meet MST’s standards.

Key responsibility 2: Support monitoring and evaluation analysis for donor-funded projects

Work with RME team to assist the project managers in preparing quarterly/annual reports on required key indicators.
Take initiative to use MIS data to measure the effectiveness of different activities taking place both at facility and community levels in the programme.

Key responsibility 3: Support the development and embedding of the MST’s

Management Information System

Support the development and operation of a functional M&E-MIS system at organization level that gathers data based on objectives and indicators in the programme M&E framework.
Conduct data quality assurance at various levels of the projects including service delivery points.

Skills and Experience (essential):

4-5 years’ proven hands-on experience working in a research role, including significant experience in study design and protocol development, overseeing research fieldwork, statistical analysis, and reporting, and disseminating findings.
Highly numerate with strong conceptual and analytical skills.
Good skills in using Excel to create analytical tables and graphical outputs and develop tools to streamline data capture, analysis, and presentation.
Excellent data analysis skills using statistical software packages (SPSS and STATA) and experience of advanced quantitative analysis techniques.
Experience in reproductive health research and using routine health data.
Strong communicator in both English and Kiswahili with strong persuasion and negotiation skills, and able to explain complex RME concepts to non-experts.
Experience in producing clear and simple reports, including charts & graphs, for end-users.

Qualifications and Training (essential):

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in statistics/epidemiology, mathematics or related discipline with training in quantitative research methods.
Master’s degree (or equivalent) in public health, research, epidemiology, statistics, international development, social sciences, health sciences or related discipline with training in quantitative research methods-
Additional qualification or formal training in research design or impact evaluation-
