Job Summary:
The Program Development Officer will play a key role in driving the growth and sustainability of our organization by leading proposal development, coordinating with donors, and exploring new funding opportunities. This position requires a proactive individual with strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including international donors and partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proposal Development:
- Lead the development of high-quality project proposals, including concept notes and detailed proposals, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and organizational goals.
- Collaborate with program teams to gather necessary information, data, and inputs for proposal development.
- Coordinate the proposal review process, ensuring timely submission to donors.
- Donor Coordination and Liaison:
- Act as the primary point of contact for donors, maintaining regular communication and ensuring effective collaboration.
- Provide updates and reports to donors on project progress, challenges, and achievements.
- Facilitate donor visits and meetings, ensuring that donor expectations are met.
- Exploring Funding Opportunities:
- Identify and research new funding opportunities, including grants, partnerships, and collaborations with donors, foundations, and other relevant entities.
- Monitor donor trends and priorities to align organizational strategies with emerging funding opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a database of potential funding sources and track application deadlines.
- Strategic Planning and Development:
- Contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic plan, particularly in relation to fundraising and resource mobilization.
- Provide input on program design and development to ensure alignment with donor priorities and funding opportunities.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all proposal submissions, donor communications, and funding agreements.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management on the status of proposal development, donor engagement, and funding pipelines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in proposal development, donor coordination, and fundraising, preferably within the NGO sector.
- Proven track record of successful proposal writing and securing funding from international donors.
- Strong understanding of donor expectations, funding mechanisms, and proposal development processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software tools.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of the humanitarian and development sector, particularly in Tanzania.
- Experience working with multi-cultural teams and international stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
