Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE)

This exam serves as a means for the government to choose Form I applicants for its educational institutions; students who pass and those who fail are awarded diplomas.

The Examination Calendar
PSLE is normally and usually administered in the second week of September every year.

The examined subjects at PSLE are:

1. Kiswahili

2. Hisabati (Mathematics)

3. Sayansi na Teknolojia (Science and Technology)

4. English Language

5. Uraia na Maadili (Civic and Moral Education)

6. Maarifa ya Jamii na Stadi za Kazi (Social Studies and Vocational Skills).

The objectives of PSLE

The purpose of the PSLE is to evaluate students’ knowledge and skills in a variety of subjects at the primary school level; to evaluate students’ comprehension of the fundamentals of reading, writing, and math; to evaluate students’ ability to apply these skills to solve real-world problems; and to identify students who have the potential to continue their education in secondary schools or other training facilities.

Eligibility of Candidates who Seat for the Examination

All students who have finished grade seven in public or private schools are eligible to register and take the test.
