MAIN PURPOSE

Supervising the clinical activities and guaranteeing the quality of midwifery care in the department, according to MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards in order to provide a high quality Mother and Child Health (MCH) care to the population

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Supervising, supporting and evaluating the team under his/her responsibility particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in her team such as cleaners. Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc) and coaching them in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures.
  • Ensuring teamwork and a professional relationship between maternity and other departments.
  • Supervising the clinical activities in all the maternity units of the peripheral facilities and activities such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born vaccinations and liaising with the Medical Doctor about the patients who need special care times, visiting hours, etc.
  • Ensuring that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment.
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols, reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • Being responsible for the department-related pharmacy activities (stock and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment
  • Being responsible for ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
  •  In certain contexts, being responsible for ensuring that the maternity staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to the victims of the SGBV in collaboration with the Obs Gyne MD and following the protocols

MSF SECTION/ CONTEXT SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

As integrated project MSF is working in collaboration with MOH staff of 7 selected health facilities in the district:

  • To supervise Liwale project’s peripheral clinical activities and guaranteeing the quality of midwifery care in the six peripheral facilities, according to MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards in order to pro-vide a high-quality Mother and Child Health (MCH) care to the population

MSF has been working intermittently in Tanzania since 1993, supporting MOH in a variety of areas, notably the provision of primary and secondary health care and the response to epidemics such as cholera, malaria, and HIV/AIDS. MSF’s latest intervention in the country started in May 2015 with an emergency response to a cholera outbreak affecting both the refugee and the host populations in Kigoma region. During the emergency phase MSF expanded medical and water/sanitation activities to all three refugee camps in the region.

Liwale project officially launched in December 2022, Liwale project is an integrated project supporting MoH in Community based, Primary and Secondary health care for mother and child under 5. MSF is currently supporting 7 health facilities including 4 secondary health care facilities (1 district hospital, 3 health centres) where CEmONC are offered and 3 primary health care where BEmONC are offered. This support includes facilitation for recruitment of 102 health care workers including 50 community health care workers, medical supply, empowerment of team (trainings, team management, quality of care improvement), referrals, Watsan activities and rehabilitations.

Minimum Educational Qualification:

  • Essential Diploma in Midwifery
  • Essential Valid registered midwifery license to practice

Experience:

  • Essential at least TWO (2) years experienced in-charge and/or supervisory role as a Midwife

Knowledge:

  • Essential Computer literacy (WORD, EXCEL and INTERNET)

Languages:

  • Good English spoken and written, and Kiswahili are essential.
