Job Purpose

To lead and manage the Legal Services function of CRDB Bank DR Congo S.A. by providing strategic legal advisory services, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements, safeguarding the Bank’s legal interests, managing litigation and contract management, and supporting corporate governance and business growth initiatives in line with the Bank’s strategic objectives and the regulatory framework of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Principle Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice and support to Management and business units on banking, commercial, corporate, employment, and regulatory matters.
• Lead the drafting, review, negotiation, and management of contracts, agreements, and other legal documentation to safeguard the Bank’s interests.
• Oversee litigation, dispute resolution, debt recovery matters, and management of external legal counsel.
• Ensure compliance with applicable banking, corporate, labour, commercial, and regulatory requirements in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
• Support regulatory inspections, audits, investigations, and legal risk management initiatives across the Bank.
• Provide legal support on strategic projects, product development, partnerships, and business transformation initiatives.
• Support the Board and Management on corporate governance matters, statutory compliance, and regulatory filings.
• Develop and update legal policies, procedures, and frameworks in line with regulatory and business requirements.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, external counsel, government authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Lead, manage, coach, and develop the Legal Services team to ensure high performance, effective service delivery, and professional growth.
• Manage departmental objectives, resources, and performance to support achievement of the Bank’s strategic goals.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized institution.
• Master’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Corporate Governance, or a related field will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 5–7 years’ relevant legal experience, preferably in banking, financial services, corporate, or commercial law.
• At least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
• Experience dealing with banking regulators and financial sector legal frameworks is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of banking, commercial, corporate, labour, and financial services laws.
• Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Strong understanding of regulatory and governance frameworks.
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving capability.
• High ethical standards, professionalism, and integrity.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong business acumen and decision-making capability.
• Proficiency in French and English is required.
• Working knowledge of Swahili and Lingala is an asset.
