Job description
Johari Rotana is currently seeking passionate and dynamic Environment, Health and Safety professionals who take pride in their ability to deliver extraordinary levels of customer service and lead a team that remains compliant with all relevant corporate and local food safety, environmental, health, and safety requirements.
As an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the hotel maintains safe, compliant, and environmentally friendly operations while protecting the health and safety of guests and employees.
Key responsibilities
The EHS Manager will be responsible for the following duties:
- Develop Environmental Health and Safety and food safety manuals, and review them annually or more frequently when required.
- Lead or participate in various types of EHS, HACCP, ISO, Sustainability, and OHSMS compliance or management system audits.
- Provide guidance on conformance requirements and corrective actions.
- Establish audit requirements to ensure compliance with food safety, occupational safety, and environmental regulations.
- Oversee all audit results, evaluate trends, communicate results, and establish action plans to ensure the hotel remains compliant with corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in incident investigations, document root causes, communicate results, and set corrective actions required to prevent recurrence.
- Assess hotel employee training needs, develop training materials, and conduct training programs as necessary.
- Ensure suppliers and contractors comply with EHS and food safety standards through audits and communication.
- Monitor and identify relevant changes in Sustainability, Health and Safety, and Food Safety local regulations and laws.
- Update internal procedures, policies, and forms according to relevant regulatory changes.
- Undertake regular EHS and food safety inspections at the workplace and implement corrective actions where required.
- Manage and control all documents related to EHSMS and food safety, including manuals, policies, procedures, logs, and corresponding reports.
- Collaborate with various departments to implement corporate social responsibility activities aimed at contributing positively to the community and environment.
- Oversee the implementation and monitoring of Rotana Earth programs within the hotel.
- Operate in a safe and environmentally friendly way to protect guests’ and employees’ health and safety.
- Protect and conserve the environment.
- Comply with the hotel’s environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
- Occupational health and safety responsibilities
The Occupational Health and Safety responsibilities will include:
- Develop OHSMS manuals, policies, and procedures, and review them periodically or more frequently when required.
- Lead the implementation of the OHS system.
- Monitor the OHS system through inspections and meetings, including OHS meetings and management reviews.
- Work with heads of departments and operational colleagues to ensure effective OHS implementation.
- Retain active involvement in periodic reviews and assist in setting EHS objectives and targets.
- Ensure new employees receive all OHS training related to their specific tasks.
- Report to senior management and the sector regulatory authority on OHSMS performance.
- Ensure legal requirements are updated, communicated, and implemented throughout the property.
- Establish and plan audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OHS regulations.
- Oversee and communicate all audit results.
- Establish action plans to ensure hotel compliance with OHS regulatory requirements.
- Conduct and regularly review risk assessments for all areas in the hotel in coordination with the concerned departments.
- Implement specific control measures based on risk assessment findings.
Education, qualifications, and experience
Applicants should have the following qualifications and experience:
- College or university degree in Health and Safety, Food Safety, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in an EHS, Food Safety, or Sustainability role.
- Experience within hospitality or a similar high-risk operational environment.
Professional certifications are an advantage, including:
- NEBOSH
- IOSH
- ISO 22000
- ISO 45001
- HACCP
- Lead Auditor certification
- Computer literacy.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
