The Opportunity
Join Geita Gold Mining Limited as the Director, Asset Management & Engineering, a pivotal leadership role reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, with a dotted line to the Managing Director. This opportunity places you at the heart of our operational excellence, where you will spearhead the development and implementation of robust maintenance and asset integrity strategies for all fixed plant and mobile equipment. Your leadership will ensure reliable, safe-to-use equipment performance aligned with production plans, optimizing life cycle costs while supporting long-term site strategic objectives.
As a key member of the Heavy Mobile Equipments department at the Geita division, you will leverage your engineering expertise and strategic insight to manage capital requirements and lead capital project initiatives, driving sustainable operational success across the site.
Key Responsibilities
As the senior engineering leader at Geita Gold Mining Limited, your accountabilities encompass:
- Leading and ensuring comprehensive maintenance is executed across all open-pit and underground mobile equipment, sustaining peak operational reliability and safety.
- Upholding and advancing the site’s safety standards, providing leadership to the entire Engineering team and associated contractors, fostering a culture of safety and compliance.
- Acting as a primary liaison for engineering and asset management initiatives, translating regional and corporate strategies into actionable site-level execution plans.
- Building and nurturing a highly qualified and experienced engineering workforce, ensuring discipline health and alignment with site goals.
- Collaborating with external stakeholders and suppliers to effectively manage expectations and safeguard company interests.
- Promoting cross-functional integration by ensuring engineering supports and partners seamlessly with other departments across the site.
- Developing and enforcing engineering and maintenance standards, complemented by the creation and compliance monitoring of standardized procedures.
- Championing safety leadership by leading critical hazard identification programs, mitigation initiatives, and embedding Six Sigma Lean methodologies such as 5S across engineering operations.
- Driving the asset management and reliability agenda by deploying integrated plans aligned with AGA strategy, pioneering condition-based maintenance tactics, and conducting Reliability-Centered
- Maintenance (RCM) studies for critical equipment.
- Establishing and analyzing performance metrics to enhance equipment reliability and availability, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and defect elimination strategies for critical failures.
- Overseeing rigorous work planning and control systems to ensure maintenance strategies are timely executed, inclusive of comprehensive major shutdowns for both mobile and fixed plant equipment.
- Providing expert technical leadership across disciplines (electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, and control systems) with a consulting approach to solve complex engineering challenges and uphold design and operational standards.
- Managing the engineering documentation repository, ensuring accessibility, accuracy, and currency of critical manuals, drawings, and OEM documentation.
- Leveraging advanced engineering systems including CMMS, Fleet management software, and SCADA to enhance operational efficiency and maintenance excellence.
- Supporting project execution and continuous improvement initiatives by delivering high-standard technical expertise and quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Leading specialist assessments, risk evaluations, major equipment repair scopes, and quality assurance processes both on- and off-site with external partners.
- Optimizing resource availability and capability to maximize equipment uptime and operational continuity through well-planned shutdowns and maintenance activities.
- Developing and maintaining a 3-year maintenance budget forecast, aligning with mine plans and managing expenditure within approved limits, including benchmarking and contract management for outsourced services.
- Driving the site capital investment process by managing a comprehensive risk and opportunity register and preparing well-substantiated business cases to support investment decisions.
- Ensuring compliance with all governance requirements including conflict of interest declarations, SOX controls, delegation of authority, and rigorous reporting obligations.

Qualifications and Professional Credentials
- A University degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent tertiary qualification.
- Alternatively, a Vocational Trade qualification in Mechanical or Electrical disciplines with extensive proven experience.
Experience and Skills
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years of hands-on and leadership experience within mining operations, specifically in maintenance or engineering service provision.
- Strong expertise in contract management and team leadership within technical and operational environments is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing asset management strategies and maintenance excellence programs.
- Proven ability to manage large-scale capital projects and budgets effectively.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse teams and stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong safety leadership with a track record of fostering a safe and compliant work environment.
