Job Purpose

The Database Administrator (DBA) manages, maintains, and optimizes the bank’s core database systems (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and future enterprise database deployments) along with their underlying operating systems. Reporting within the ICT Operations division, this role delivers timely database support, automated batch processing, system backups, point-in-time restores, and monitoring tools to uphold Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Database Administration & System Uptime:

  • Manage, configure, and optimize core bank database management systems (Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server).

  • Execute periodic database backups, disaster recovery drills, and point-in-time data restores in alignment with Business Continuity Management (BCM) standards.

  • Monitor database capacity, server health metrics, and query performance to prevent downtime and operational bottlenecks.

• Applications Support & Batch Operations:

  • Support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of proprietary and vendor-leased banking applications.

  • Oversee batch job operations, database scripting, user interface data flows, and application programming documentation.

  • Execute change management requests and adhere strictly to run-time Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

• Security, Compliance & Configuration:

  • Implement database security controls, access permissions, patch updates, and configuration management standards to protect sensitive financial data.

  • Document operational facts, technical procedures, and system configurations for audit and regulatory compliance.

Candidate Qualifications & Competencies

Education & Technical Qualifications:

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Technical Certifications: Professional certifications in Oracle Database Administration (OCA/OCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator / SQL Server are highly desirable.

Required Experience:

• 3 to 4 years of hands-on experience in database administration, core application support, and batch operations within a commercial bank, financial institution, or large enterprise environment.

• 3 to 4 years of experience in analyzing functional requirements, application prototyping, maintaining database code, and executing IT configuration/change controls.

Technical & Behavioral Competencies:

• Technical Skills: Deep expertise in Oracle DB, MS SQL, Business Continuity Management, Information Security, Capacity Planning, and IT Configuration Management.

• Core Behaviors: High attention to detail, strong team collaboration, adherence to strict IT governance procedures, prompt action, and ability to meet tight delivery timescales.
