Role Overview & Responsibilities
The Communications Officer – Urban Youth Programming will lead communication, visibility, and advocacy initiatives for donor-funded projects (specifically GAC / AHADI). The role focuses on spotlighting urban youth empowerment, gender equality, and health systems strengthening across Dar es Salaam and Dodoma.

Communication Strategy & Campaign Planning (25%): Implement project communication and advocacy plans; coordinate campaigns, university outreach, and public events aligned with donor and organizational standards.

Content Creation, Storytelling & Multimedia Production (25%): Produce high-quality written stories, photo essays, case studies, and videos; conduct field visits to urban project sites and manage a digital asset repository.

Digital Media Management & Engagement (15%): Manage official social media platforms (X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn); design graphics and digital campaign materials; monitor audience engagement metrics.

Donor Visibility & Reporting Compliance (15%): Ensure strict adherence to Government of Canada (GAC) and AHADI branding guidelines across all printed and digital collaterals and grant reporting.

Event Coordination & Media Engagement (10%): Organize press conferences, press releases, and media coverage; maintain strong media relationships in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma.

Stakeholder & Partner Collaboration (5%): Partner with local organizations (TAHEA, Baba Watoto, KIWOHEDE) and university bodies to capture community-level impact using mobilization frameworks (e.g., MenCare, Channels of Hope).
Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Mass Communication, or a closely related field.

Certifications in graphic design, photography, video editing, or digital marketing are added advantages.

Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in communications, PR, journalism, or digital marketing within an NGO or international development context.

Proven experience with donor-funded program communications (direct experience with Government of Canada / GAC or AHADI grant compliance preferred).

Hands-on experience working with youth groups, university student bodies, or urban development initiatives.

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

Proficiency in graphic design and video editing software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.).

Excellent storytelling, photojournalism, and written/verbal communication skills.

Strong familiarity with social media management, press engagement, and public relations.
