Background information

OffgridSun East Africa is a Tanzanian enterprise whose mission is to develop, design, manufacture, and commercialize innovative technical solutions to improve access to reliable, clean, and affordable energy for rural offgrid communities in developing countries.

The company works into the carbon credits sector by designing and implementing clean cooking projects in Tanzania. The projects are aimed at improving access to improved biomass cookstoves in communities living in rural remote areas in the country, affected by high levels of deforestation due to fuelwood collection and charcoal production.

The overall objective of the programme is to reduce CO2 emissions and fuelwood consumption related to domestic cooking practices by:

• Sensitizing local rural communities on environment protection and benefit of clean cooking
• Replacing traditional, inefficient three stone fire stoves with locally-made, portable, improved cookstoves with high thermal efficiency

The company is looking for a Clean Cooking project assistant, reporting to the OffgridSun East Africa Director, with the following role and responsibilities.

The Role

The Project Assistant will be responsible for monitoring the improved cookstoves manufacturing process to ensure that quality standards are achieved according to timelines, to manage the logistic of the orders according to projects priorities and to perform activities on the ground in collaboration with project partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct quality check on the products during both the production and post-production phases.
• Liaise with manufacturers to ensure efficient production processes.
• Provide constant supervision of the manufacturing process, addressing issues as they arise.
• Ensure the production of efficient and high-quality cookstoves.
• Organize the logistics of the orders transport in project sites according to projects timeframe
• Perform activities on the project sites such as training of local distributors, organization of cookstoves distribution processes, registration and monitoring of end-users
• Prepare reports
• Perform any other task requested by the Project Manager.

Required Skills:

• Ability to identify and resolve a variety of problems within cookstove production, such as production defects or noncompliance with company standards.
• Experience in the improved cookstove production sector.
• Knowledge/work experience in carbon projects sector is an asset
• Experience in quality assurance is an asset
• Experience in performing training activities
• Knowledge/ work experience in project management
• Ability and availability to work on the ground in remote rural areas
