Terms of Reference:
Call for contractors to upgrade the vegetable section of Kilombero Market in Arusha
Rikolto Tanzania in collaboration with the Arusha City Council under the AfriFoodLinks Project is implementing a pilot project to enhance food safety and waste management in Kilombero market. Established in 1969, Kilombero market is a key urban market that serves over 15,000 consumers daily and hosts about 5,00 vendors, predominately women and youth.
Despite its importance the market faces challenges such as inadequate and outdated stalls, poor drainage and waste management, and lack of storage facilities. The project aims to upgrade the vegetable section of the market to serve as a model for improving infrastructure, food safety and waste management in the urban markets of Arusha.
Objective of the assignment
The purpose of the assignment is to engage a qualified contractor to upgrade the vegetable section of the Kilombero market as per the proposed designed and approved Bill of Quantities (BoQ).
Scope of works
The contractor will be required to undertake but not limited to the following:
- Site preparation and clearance
- Construction of the market section as per design
- Installation of drainage and waste management infrastructure
- Finishing works to ensure compliance with safety and hygiene requirements
- Any other works as specified in the BoQ and technical drawings
Deliverables
- Completed upgrade of the vegetable section of Kilombero market
- Work progress reports summited bi-weekly and approved by the responsible Engineer from the city council
- Final handover report
Duration of the Assignment
- The construction works are expected to be completed within 60 days from the date of contract signing
Contractor Qualification
Interested contractors must demonstrate the following:
- Valid business registration and operating license in Tanzania
- Proven experience in construction and/or upgrades of markets
- Technical and financial capacity to deliver the works within the timeframe
- Compliance with Tanzania laws and regulations
Submission requirements
Interested contractors should submit the following
- A technical proposal detailing the approach, workplan and delivery schedule of the deliverables of the assignment
- A complete BoQ with prices
- Company profile with evidence of past relevant experience
