Background
The Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) – www.twcc-tz.org – is a key organization uniting women and youth entrepreneurs across Tanzania. Established in December 2005, TWCC serves as an apex body and umbrella organization for sectoral Business Women Associations, Companies, Cooperatives, Groups, and Sole Proprietors.
Membership: Over 20,000 individual and institutional members
Reach: More than 1 million women entrepreneurs across all sectors of the economy
Coverage: 27 Regional Chapters in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar
Associations and Platforms: 14 Women Sectoral Associations and 12 Cross-Border Trade Platforms
Mission and Goals
Foster unity among women and youth entrepreneurs, including those in the informal sector.
Promote business formalization and growth through capacity-building and mentorship.
Empower women by equipping them with essential skills and resources to reduce poverty.
Collaborate with private and public sector stakeholders to advocate for supportive policies for women-owned enterprises.
Job Summary
The Business Development Officer plays a vital role in:
- Identifying and developing new business opportunities.
- Fostering relationships with stakeholders.
- Promoting TWCC’s services and initiatives.
This position requires a strategic, innovative thinker with a strong commitment to empowering women and youth in business.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate TWCC activities in the ongoing green and smart cities project in Mwanza.
- Conduct market research to identify business opportunities for women and youth entrepreneurs.
- Identify potential members and partners to expand TWCC’s network.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase membership and sponsorship revenues.
- Support membership strategy development to maximize member benefits.
- Maintain an accurate and updated database of Mwanza regional members.
- Schedule stakeholder meetings and facilitate communication between members, TWCC leadership, and external partners.
- Prepare and deliver pitches, presentations, and proposals to members and partners.
- Assist in coordinating TWCC events, including Breakfast Meetings, Trade Fairs, and B2B sessions.
- Support regional leaders in event/activities coordination with TWCC Head Office authorization.
- Share weekly event updates via WhatsApp, bulk SMS, emails, and social media.
- Promote TWCC’s services and initiatives through events, workshops, and digital platforms.
- Identify and assess new business opportunities and partnerships for women and youth entrepreneurs.
- Prepare reports on business development activities, including progress, challenges, and results.
- Provide support to the regional leadership team and guidance to regional members.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Community Development, Project Management, or related field.
Work Experience
- At least 2 years of experience in project implementation, business development, or marketing, preferably within a non-government organization.Government job listings
- Proven track record of achieving business targets and driving growth.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of the Tanzanian business environment and challenges faced by women and youth entrepreneurs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Budget management and financial statement review skills.
- Solid understanding of project management.
- Market research ability.
- Proposal writing and fundraising experience (an added advantage).
- Knowledge of regional integration processes and their impact on women entrepreneurs.
- Commitment to TWCC’s mission of gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
