• Department: Underground Mining Operations

• Reporting To: Underground Mining Supervisor

• Employment Type: Full-Time / Permanent

Job Purpose

The Airleg Operator is responsible for operating airleg drilling equipment to drill blast holes in accordance with underground mining plans and technical specifications. This role ensures high accuracy of drilled holes, adheres strictly to safety and operational procedures, and maintains equipment to achieve daily production targets.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Drilling Operations & Execution:

  • Accurately set up, position, and operate airleg drills according to mine design plans and supervisor instructions.

  • Identify, mark, and drill blast holes accurately to optimize fragment quality and minimize overbreak.

  • Monitor ground conditions and adjust drilling techniques appropriately.

  • Assist with charging, blasting preparation, and other underground production tasks as required.

• Equipment Maintenance & Safety Checks:

  • Perform thorough pre-start, operational, and post-shift inspections on airleg drills, bits, rods, and hoses.

  • Execute basic maintenance and promptly report faults, mechanical defects, or unsafe conditions.

  • Ensure high equipment uptime through proper care and handling.

• EHS & Workplace Compliance:

  • Comply with all underground mining regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and hazard identification protocols.

  • Maintain clean, hazard-free work areas in confined underground spaces.

  • Complete daily equipment inspection logs and production tracking reports.

Candidate Qualifications & Competencies

Education & Certifications:

• Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).

• Certificate or formal training in Underground Mining Operations is an added advantage.

• Valid Tanzanian Driving License (Classes B, C, D, and E) with manual transmission capability.

• Formal Equipment Operator licenses/certifications for all claimed equipment.

Experience & Technical Skills:

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in underground mining or construction operations.

• Proven track record in operating airleg drills in an underground mining environment.

• Solid knowledge of drilling techniques, underground safety regulations, and basic equipment maintenance.

• Ability to read and follow underground mine plans and blast designs.
