Unitrans Tanzania Limited is a logistics and transportation company operating in Tanzania. It is part of Unitrans Africa, a larger organization providing end-to-end supply chain solutions across Sub-Saharan Africa for over a century.
Position: Technician – Heavy Equipment and Machinery (11 posts)
Location: Kilombero
Employment type: Fixed Term Contract
Job purpose: Maintains, modifies, installs, and repairs equipment and machinery.
Minimum requirements:
- Diploma or certificate in mechanical engineering, diesel mechanics, or a related field from a recognized institution / Trade Test Certification (Grade I or Level III) in Diesel Mechanics or Heavy Equipment Maintenance.
- Certification in hydraulics and heavy equipment systems is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance and repair of haulage tractors, haulage trucks, agricultural tractors, heavy equipment, and other diesel-powered machinery.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Laws and Regulations.
- Valid driving license Class E preferred.
Key skills:
- Experience working with HVAC systems in heavy equipment.
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Proficiency in diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and mechanical systems of sugarcane haulage equipment and heavy machinery.
- Strong understanding of fuel systems, turbochargers, exhaust systems, and cooling systems.
- Knowledge of CAN-bus systems, sensors, and automation systems in agricultural and heavy machinery.
- Understanding of safety standards and regulations.
- Knowledge of fire prevention and first aid procedures related to diesel mechanics.
Soft skills:
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, strong communication, time management, decision-making, adaptability, and willingness to work overtime and in remote locations when required.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the fleet is maintained in the most cost-effective way by efficient ordering of spares and consumables.
- Ensure maximum availability of the fleet and least amount of downtime.
- Perform preventative maintenance as per manufacturer recommendations.
