Unitrans Tanzania Limited is a logistics and transportation company operating in Tanzania. It is part of Unitrans Africa, a larger organization providing end-to-end supply chain solutions across Sub-Saharan Africa for over a century
Unitrans Tanzania Limited invites applications from qualified and skilled candidates to fill the following positions.
Position: Technician – Heavy duty truck (11 posts)
Location: Kilombero
Employment type: Fixed Term Contract
Job purpose: Maintains, modifies, installs, and repairs equipment and vehicles.
Minimum requirements:
- Diploma or Certificate in Automotive Engineering, Diesel Mechanics from a recognized institution /
- Certification (Grade I or Level III) in Diesel Mechanics or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.
- Certification in hydraulics, braking systems, and heavy vehicle diagnostics is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance and repair of trucks and trailers.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Laws and Regulations.
- Valid driving license Class E, F, and G preferred.
Key skills:
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical diagrams, service manuals, and technical schematics.
- Strong understanding of fuel injection systems, turbochargers, exhaust systems, and cooling systems.
- Knowledge of CAN-bus systems, sensors, and automation systems in modern trucks.
- Understanding of mechanical safety standards and roadworthiness regulations applicable in Tanzania.
- Hands-on experience with diesel engines, gearboxes, differentials, and braking systems.
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in heavy-duty trucks.
- Familiarity with suspension systems, steering components, and troubleshooting.
Soft skills:
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, strong communication, time management, decision-making, adaptability, and willingness to work overtime and in remote locations when required.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the fleet is maintained in the most cost-effective way by efficient ordering of spares and consumables.
- Ensure maximum availability of the fleet and least amount of downtime.
- Perform preventative maintenance as per manufacturer recommendations.
