Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a qualified, trustworthy, and detail-oriented Payroll Officer for its large-scale gold mining operation in Tanzania. The role guarantees accurate, timely, and compliant payroll execution across all employee tiers in accordance with company policies, internal controls, and Tanzanian statutory regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Operations & Compliance

• Review, verify, and process payroll source documents, change notes, and overtime entries into the payroll software system.

• Prepare and print comprehensive payroll reports covering earnings, hours worked, statutory taxes, insurance, and leave balances.

• Establish and manage an annual payroll calendar outlining key deadlines, tax submissions, and operational milestones.

• Ensure full compliance with Tanzanian tax regulations, statutory deductions, and internal corporate policies.

• Oversee accurate setup for all new hires and ensure updated payroll records are promptly transmitted to respective pension funds.

• Resolve all employee payroll-related inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally.

Internal Controls & Audit Support

• Implement and oversee robust internal control frameworks governing payroll systems and authorization workflows.

• Conduct ongoing compliance checks and communicate any identified control weaknesses or improvement strategies to the Financial Controller.

• Support internal and external audit processes by preparing requested documentation and responding to audit inquiries.

Risk Management & General Finance

• Assist in maintaining risk minimization strategies across payroll and financial operations.

• Ensure proper accounting and insurance alignment for company assets where applicable.

Candidate Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) or Bachelor of Accounting and Finance from a recognized institution.

• Professional Certification: Qualified Accountant holding CPA-T (NBAA) or ACCA accreditation is an added advantage.

• Experience: At least 3 years of hands-on payroll experience, including managing complex payrolls for 300+ full-time and casual employees.

• Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with payroll software platforms and computer-based financial accounting systems.

• Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of group/local financial reporting standards, internal control requirements, and Tanzanian tax compliance.
