Job Purpose

The Legal and Recovery Officer will provide comprehensive legal expertise, develop strategies for recovering overdue loans, review corporate and credit documentation, interpret legislation, and represent the organization in civil, recovery, and labor litigations across court jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

• Recovery Management: Formulate strategies for overdue loan collection and follow up on recovery cases at Primary Courts, District Courts, the High Court, and Land and Housing Tribunals.

• Litigation & Compliance: Represent BTFL in court proceedings, liaise with police on reported cases, hold watching briefs in criminal matters, and offer advice on microfinance legislation and proactive compliance.

• Documentation & Review: Review and perfect credit facility documentation, draft contracts, review fraud investigation reports, and recommend necessary legal actions.

• Reporting & Analysis: Submit monthly and annual reports detailing active legal suits, credit recovery progress, exposure analyses, and risk mitigation strategies.

• Training & Advisory: Train staff on operational legal issues, assist in identifying genuine securities, and help update internal company policies and procedures.

• Safeguarding: Promote safeguarding standards, ensure a work environment free from harassment or abuse, and follow reporting procedures for any incidents.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. Must be a Registered Advocate.

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of legal practice experience, with a heavy emphasis on litigation, recovery cases, labor laws, and financial institution regulations. Legal and Recovery Officer

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research methodologies.

• Core Competencies: Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities; sound judgment; excellent written and verbal English communication; capacity to manage high-pressure deadlines.
