Economic Affairs Specialist (Local Researcher) – Fixed-Term Position
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United Republic of Tanzania invites applications from qualified and highly motivated candidates for the position of Economic Security Specialist (Local Researcher).
POSITION INFORMATION
Position: Economic Affairs Specialist (Local Researcher)
Number of Vacancies: One (1)
Duty Station: Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Dar es Salaam
Employment Type: Full-time, fixed-term contract
Contract Period: Less than one year(to be determined through mutual consultation, the contract will be automatically terminated upon expiration of the agreed contract period)
Probationary Period: Three (3) months
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Monitoring, researching and analyzing major economic issues and developments in Tanzania and East Africa (relevant areas may include trade and investment, energy and natural resources and minerals, etc.) ;
- Supporting the preparation of analytical reports, policy briefs, briefing notes and presentations;
- Monitoring economy-related laws, regulations, government policies and administrative measures in Tanzania and wider East Africa;
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- A Master’s degree or higher in a field relevant to economic security; or
- A Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to economic security with at least five years of relevant professional experience.
- Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Tanzania.
REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES
Applicants should possess the following attributes:
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili;
- Strong research, analytical and report-writing skills;
- Good knowledge of Tanzania’s economic, legal, regulatory and business environment;
- Good interpersonal, communication and networking skills;
- Professionalism, discipline, integrity and discretion;
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint; and
- A proactive and well-organized approach to work.
- The ability to communicate in written or spoken Korean will be considered an advantage.
- Relevant professional experience in government, international organizations, research institutions, universities, consulting firms, business associations or the private sector will also be considered an advantage.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
- All-Inclusive Gross Monthly Salary: USD 1,500
- The gross monthly salary of USD 1,500 is all-inclusive and constitutes the employee’s entire contractual cash remuneration.
- No additional salary, bonus, performance incentive, gratuity, contractual severance payment, housing allowance, transport allowance, meal allowance, communication allowance, medical allowance, relocation allowance or any other allowance, benefit or additional cash payment will be provided by the Embassy.
The above provision does not exclude any payment, contribution or entitlement that the Embassy is legally required to provide under applicable law.
Applicable taxes, the employee’s share of statutory social security contributions and any other legally required deductions will be deducted from the gross monthly salary.
Any statutory contribution that the Embassy is required to pay in its capacity as the employer shall not constitute additional salary or cash remuneration payable directly to the employee.
The first three months of employment will constitute a probationary period. During this period, the employee’s performance, competence and suitability for the position will be assessed.
Employment may be terminated during or upon completion of the probationary period in accordance with the employment contract and applicable laws and regulations.
Successful completion of the probationary period does not guarantee an extension or renewal of the contract.
This is strictly a fixed-term position. The position does not create any guarantee or expectation of contract renewal or conversion to indefinite-term or permanent employment.

- Certificates or other supporting documents should be submitted where relevant professional experience is used to meet the qualification requirements.
- There is no prescribed format for the application documents.
- Documents not written in English should be accompanied by an English translation.
- Shortlisted applicants or the successful candidate may be required to submit original academic and employment certificates, identification documents, professional references, proof of eligibility to work in Tanzania and a police clearance certificate.

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process may include the following stages:
