Purpose of the Role
As the Finance Manager, the candidate will play a critical role in providing leadership, coordination, and oversight of all finance and accounting operations across MHB’s Head Office and branches. The candidate will work closely with departmental heads to ensure financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and timely reporting, while aligning financial operations with our long-term strategic goals.
Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day finance operations including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting functions.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports (e.g. income statements, balance sheets, cashflow statements, budget variances, tax filings).
- Ensure full compliance with local laws, regulatory requirements, and international financial reporting standards (IFRS).
- Review, develop, and enforce internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with internal audit to ensure strong governance and risk management.
- Oversee the approval, processing, and reconciliation of all revenues, expenditures, and payroll transactions.
- Maintain and enhance financial systems and tools, supporting automation and process improvement.
- Lead financial planning and provide guidance to departmental heads on financial matters.
- Support liquidity and investment management strategies and capital-raising initiatives.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including lenders and depositors.
Additional Responsibilities
- Oversee the proper reconciliation of all bank accounts and ensure resolution of suspense or adjustment accounts.
- Manage documentation and records in line with best practice standards.
- Coordinate asset inventory and support fixed asset management across the bank.
- Drive budget planning, implementation, and monitoring across departments.
- Manage annual audits (external and internal) and ensure audit readiness at all times.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency within the finance function.
- Strengthen collaboration with other departments and enhance the visibility of the finance team within the organization.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing team.
- Support teamwork and new ideas by using flexible ways of working, practical problem-solving approaches, and ongoing learning to improve how we work and make financial decisions.
Regulatory and Quality Compliance:
- Ensure all products and services comply with industry regulations and internal quality standards.
- Oversee risk management and quality assurance processes throughout the product development lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or Statistics.
- CPA (T), ACCA, or equivalent professional certification is a must.
- Postgraduate diploma or Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Registered member of NBAA.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial services or FMCG sector, with at least 3 years in a senior finance role.
Knowledge and Skills
- Solid understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Proficiency in accounting software and strong Excel skills (including financial modeling).
- Analytical mindset with strong statistical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with financial IT systems and digital tools.
