About Vision Care
Vision Care is a non-governmental organization working to improve access to quality eye health services in underserved communities in Tanzania. The organization implements ophthalmic outreach programs, cataract surgical camps, and capacity-building initiatives in collaboration with partner hospitals and government institutions.
Vision Care invites applications from qualified Tanzanian candidates for the position of Medical Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities
Eye Screening Programme
- Coordinate logistics and implementation of eye screening activities in the target area.
- Manage medicine stock following each screening event — conduct inventory checks, ensure proper storage and labeling
- Compile and enter screening results into the designated database within the required timeframe.
- Track referral cases and prescription records and follow up on outcomes.
- Prepare aggregate result reports for KOICA and partner reporting using approved templates.
Partner facility support
- Collect and consolidate monthly patient statistics from partner facility
- Compile monthly consolidated reports and submit to the supervisor within the agreed deadline.
- Conduct quarterly medicine procurement needs assessments
- Coordinate with the procurement officer and pharmacy to process purchase requests and confirm
- delivery schedules.
Supported Equipment Management
- Conduct quarterly on-site inspections of all project-supported equipment at hub hospitals.
- Assess and document equipment functionality, utilisation levels, user difficulties
- Record inspection findings in the standardised quarterly Excel tracking sheet
- Coordinate repair or replacement arrangements.
- Conduct continuous follow-up on unresolved equipment faults and provide status updates to the
- Country Director until full resolution.
Ophthalmologist & Surgical Nurse Training / Outreach Field Support
- Coordinate logistics for capacity-building training events
- Provide pre-outreach logistical planning for surgical camps and eye outreach programmes, including equipment packing, transport coordination, and site confirmation.
Eye Health Awareness & Education
- Support planning and implementation of community eye health awareness and education activities
- Assist in the development and updating of IEC materials in English and Swahili in coordination with relevant teams; manage printed material inventory.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate education sessions using approved session guides
- Document session outcomes and submit session reports
- Support coordination of annual events such as World Sight Day in collaboration with partner organizations
- Required task related to project goal
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or a related field
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience or programme coordination / administrative experience in the health sector or international development
Preferred
- Experience working in eye health programmes, NGO-funded projects, or KOICA / donor-funded health initiatives is a strong advantage
Field Work
- Willingness and ability to undertake regular field trips to Pwani Region and other project sites as required
Skills and Competencies
Programme & Coordination Skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent activities across different facilities and work areas
Data & Reporting
- Ability to collect, validate, and compile health data accurately; experience with Excel-based data management and report writing
Supply & Equipment Management
- Familiarity with medical supply chain processes, stock management, and basic equipment monitoring
Communication
- Good written and verbal communication skills in both English and Swahili; ability to liaise effectively with government counterparts, clinical staff, and donor organisations
Independence & Reliability
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a field-based environment
Computer Proficiency
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Interpersonal Skills
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills; ability to work respectfully with diverse stakeholders including hospital management, clinical teams, and community members
