UEFA EURO 2024: Netherlands vs France Previe

Two of the tournaments favourites continue their EURO 2024 journey today at 8pm. Daniel Braddock previews this group D game

Todays fixture promises to be one of the most star-studded and exciting games the group stages will see as EURO 88′ victors’ Netherlands take on two time winners France in a must see affair that will no doubt be watched by millions.

Team News- Netherlands

Netherlands will go into this game full of confidence after they secured a 2-1 victory against Poland in the group D opener and there’s no doubt they will go into this game with a similar setup. There is no doubt that Cody Gakpo will once again be in the starting lineup after his man of the match display against Poland in which he scored an important goal. Another display that was enough to warrant a spot in the Netherlands’ starting XI was that of Nathan Ake who’s two assists help get Netherlands over the line and get their victory. Burnley star Wout Weghorst will be in contention for a start after his heroic winner in the first group game secured Netherlands a vital three points. There is no doubt that Ronald Koeman’s side will line up with their preferred 4-3-3 formation to face the blues.

Team News-France

After France’s cagey 1-0 victory against Austria they may field a different XI to try and put out a more convincing performance today. Despite people saying Ngolo Kante may be past his best, he put in a superb display against Austria, earning himself man of the match, and will have cemented his place in Didier Deschamps starting lineup. Kylian Mbappe will also likely keep his place despite suffering a broken nose on monday’s game as he will soldier on whilst wearing a protective mask. Despite keeping a clean sheet in France’s opener, William Saliba didn’t show his true quality and with him facing stiff competition with the quality of France’s defensive options such as Liverpool man Ibrahima Konate. Just like their opponents, France are expected to play a 4-3-3 formation today.
