Role Overview & Key Responsibilities

The Team Lead, Telecommunications drives UBA Tanzania’s corporate and commercial banking growth across the telecommunications and ICT infrastructure sectors. The role leads a specialized sector team to acquire corporate clients, structure trade and corporate finance solutions, expand low-cost deposit liabilities, and manage sector-specific credit risk.

• Business Development & Portfolio Growth: Drive client acquisition across telecom operators, tower companies, ISPs, and ICT infrastructure firms; achieve set targets for PBT/revenue, low-cost deposits, risk assets, bank guarantees, and foreign exchange transactions.

• Credit Evaluation & Risk Management: Screen credit applications, write comprehensive credit memoranda, and monitor approved risk triggers, conditions, and covenants; initiate prompt recovery strategies on watch-listed or non-performing accounts.

• Site Visits & Client Engagement: Conduct routine customer site visits to review business operations, technical infrastructure, and collateral; serve as a single point of contact for client executive leadership.

• Product Customization & Market Research: Collaborate with Product Development to structure sector-tailored banking solutions; monitor telecom regulations, technological shifts, and market trends to improve customer value propositions.

• Team Leadership & Performance: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate direct and indirect reporting Relationship Managers and Officers, ensuring they have the tools and support to achieve individual targets.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: First degree in a Business-related field or Social Sciences from a recognized university. (Higher degrees, MBA, or relevant professional banking certifications are an added advantage).

• Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive commercial banking experience, with direct exposure to Corporate Banking credit, relationship management, and the Telecommunications sector.

• Core Competencies: Strong understanding of corporate credit appraisal, telecom trade finance, relationship management, and portfolio quality monitoring.

• Leadership & Analytical Skills: Proven ability to work under pressure, negotiate corporate deals, lead sales teams, and perform detailed financial and credit analysis.
