Role Overview & Key Responsibilities

The Team Lead, Mining & Power drives UBA Tanzania’s corporate and commercial banking growth across the mining, energy, and power sectors. The role leads a dedicated sector team to acquire corporate clients, structure project and trade finance solutions, grow deposit liabilities, and manage sector-specific credit risk.

• Business Acquisition & Portfolio Growth: Lead client acquisition across mining enterprises, energy producers, and power generation firms; achieve assigned targets for PBT/revenue, risk assets, bank guarantees, low-cost deposits, and foreign exchange transactions.

• Credit Analysis & Risk Management: Screen credit applications, prepare detailed credit memoranda, and monitor approved risk triggers, conditions, and covenants; initiate recovery measures for watch-listed or non-performing accounts.

• Site Visits & Executive Engagement: Conduct routine customer site visits to evaluate operations, plants, equipment, and collateral; serve as the central liaison for client executive leadership.

• Product Customization & Market Research: Collaborate with Product Development to structure tailored banking solutions for the sector; analyze energy and mining market trends, policies, and regulatory shifts to safeguard bank assets.

• Team Leadership & Performance: Direct, mentor, and evaluate direct and indirect reporting Relationship Managers and Officers, ensuring adequate support to meet sector revenue targets.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: First degree in a Business-related field or Social Sciences from a recognized university. (Higher degrees, MBA, or relevant professional banking certifications are an added advantage).

• Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive commercial banking experience, with direct exposure to Corporate Banking credit, relationship management, and the Mining & Power sector.

• Core Competencies: Expert knowledge of mining and energy sector financing, project finance, structured credit, risk asset management, and corporate banking products.

• Leadership & Analytical Skills: Strong credit analysis, commercial acumen, strategic negotiation skills, cross-functional team management, and executive communication abilities.
