Position overview

The Supply Chain Planning & Logistics Lead will oversee end-to-end supply chain activities, including demand forecasting, procurement, vendor management, and logistics coordination.

The role includes managing purchase orders in compliance with company procurement policies, sourcing suppliers, and ensuring the timely delivery of inventories. This position is pivotal in supporting the company’s aggressive growth trajectory by ensuring materials, equipment, and assets are available when needed, at the right cost, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and a strong communicator with a solid understanding of supply chain planning and management.

Roles and responsibilities

Supply chain planning

  • Developing and maintaining demand forecasts aligned with project timelines and business growth targets.
  • Creating and executing supply chain strategies that support scalability and flexibility.
  • Coordinating cross-functional planning with project, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Preparing periodic supply chain management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reports.

Procurement management

  • Leading procurement processes for local purchases of equipment and materials critical to business growth and operations.
  • Effectively selecting and managing suppliers and vendors to achieve Jaza’s strategic objectives.
  • Informing other staff and vendors regarding procedural requirements, including ordering and purchasing procedures, to facilitate the purchasing process in line with established practices.
  • Ensuring that goods and services procured comply with all Jaza procurement policies.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure reliable sourcing.
  • Negotiating contracts, prices, and delivery terms to optimize cost and quality.
  • Maintaining purchasing documents, files, and records, including Requests for Proposal and vendor files, to ensure documentation availability and compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines.

Logistics and distribution

  • Coordinating inbound and outbound shipments with freight providers.
  • Overseeing transportation, warehousing, and distribution logistics to ensure timely delivery.
  • Optimizing shipping routes, transportation modes, and inventory storage to reduce costs and lead times.
  • Managing customs, clearance, and compliance requirements for international shipments, where applicable.
  • Ensuring proper documentation for international shipments, including customs clearance documents and bills of lading.
  • Resolving shipping issues or delays.
  • Overseeing inventory and stock level accuracy with warehouse teams.

Vendor and stakeholder management

  • Evaluating and onboarding suppliers while ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and sustainability standards.
  • Monitoring supplier performance and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

Data and analytics

  • Utilizing data to track KPIs such as lead times, inventory levels, procurement cycle times, and overall supply chain efficiency.
  • Identifying risks and developing mitigation plans for supply disruptions.
  • Reviewing documents and data, including incoming requisitions, past purchases, reconciliations, purchase orders, and inventories, to ensure completeness and accuracy of the purchasing process.

Process improvement and automation

  • Collaborating with software teams to implement scalable processes and systems that support rapid growth.
  • Leveraging technology to automate procurement and logistics workflows.

Compliance and risk management

  • Ensuring supply chain activities comply with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Developing contingency plans for supply chain disruptions.
  • Understanding all Tanzania regulatory requirements that apply to the importation of goods and locally sourced services.

Qualifications

Candidates should have the required competencies listed above, including strong knowledge of supply chain management, procurement procedures, logistics coordination, data analysis, compliance, and vendor management.
