Position Objective The main purpose of the job is to manage the Collection and Recovery Sub-unit to ensure the turnaround of classified loan portfolios, including SME, MSE, and consumer loans, in line with the business strategy, credit policy, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Receive delinquent retail loans with exposure below and consumer loans with above 91 days past due for collection purposes.
Maximize collections and recoveries of non-performing retail portfolios, including consumer loans, digital loans, MSE, and SME loans.
Conduct reviews of delinquent loans and establish strategies to turn them around, ensuring a high-quality performing credit portfolio in line with the business strategy.
Establish compliance for the recovery process, including issuing demand notices against existing securities or guarantees.
Advise branches and management on turnaround plans and follow up on their implementation with the credit department and branches.
Visit borrowers with non-performing facilities to assess and establish cash flows available to support proposed payment plans.
Monitor payments on a monthly basis for non-performing borrowers with settlement arrangements with the bank on the outstanding loan amount.
Liaise with stakeholders, including branches, departments within the bank, clients, government institutions, the Central Bank, and other financial institutions, to ensure the bank’s interests are properly represented and safeguarded.
Review unit reports and related processes and procedures to ensure sound quality control and recommend appropriate interventions in line with the business strategy.
Lead and demonstrate leadership to the team to perform and achieve expected results.
Present and prepare liquidation and turnaround deals that offer minimum cost and maximum return to the bank.
Perform any other official duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or line manager.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Education:
Master’s Degree in Banking, Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Accountancy, Finance, Risk Management, Actuarial Sciences, Insurance, or equivalent qualifications from recognized institutions.
Experience: At least sixteen (16) years of working experience in credit operations and portfolio monitoring, with a strong background in credit appraisal and management.
Technical Skills:
Knowledge in credit appraisal and monitoring, debt restructuring/workout, collection, and recovery.
Debt recovery management.
Effective writing and presentation skills in English and Swahili.
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, both internally and externally.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and financial management skills.
Proven leadership skills.
