Job Purpose

The Senior Manager – Parastatals leads the strategy, market penetration, and financial growth of the Parastatal Schemes portfolio within NMB’s Personal Banking unit. Reporting to the Head of Personal Banking, this executive role manages relationship teams, drives Salaried Workers Loan (SWL) growth, deepens institutional relationships with state-owned corporations, oversees portfolio credit quality, and champions digital lending channels like ESS.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Strategic Growth & Portfolio Performance:

    • Develop and execute the Parastatal Schemes business strategy to maximize overall portfolio profitability, deposit growth, customer acquisition, and net interest income.

    • Lead the acquisition, onboarding, and scheme contract negotiations for high-potential parastatal institutions and state agencies.

    • Monitor sales-force productivity, key performance indicators (KPIs), and conversion rates across all regional relationship managers.

  • Relationship & Scheme Management:

    • Build, nurture, and maintain high-level strategic relationships with C-suite executives and board-level decision-makers across parastatal institutions.

    • Lead periodic performance reviews to evaluate scheme utilization, identify competitive threats, and launch differentiated product campaigns.

    • Champion the adoption of Employer Self-Service (ESS) and digital lending platforms to streamline SWL processing and elevate user experience.

  • Credit Risk & Portfolio Quality Control:

    • Monitor the overall quality, arrears rate, and risk performance of the parastatal loan portfolio.

    • Work closely with credit risk teams to manage payroll deduction mechanisms, asset quality, and early collection interventions.

  • Team Leadership & Reporting:

    • Direct, mentor, and coach Relationship Managers – Parastatals to cultivate a high-performance sales culture.

    • Compile and present strategic insights, portfolio metrics, market trends, and risk assessments to the Head of Personal Banking and executive committees.

Candidate Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Added Advantage: Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or relevant professional certifications in Banking, Credit, Sales, or Leadership.

Work Experience & Expertise:

  • Overall Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience in retail banking, financial services, corporate relationship management, retail lending, or business development.

  • Leadership Experience: Minimum three (3) years in a managerial or leadership capacity with direct accountability for team productivity and revenue targets in a medium-to-large organization.

  • Domain Knowledge: In-depth understanding of parastatal institutions, public sector payroll structures, Salaried Workers Loans (SWL), credit risk monitoring, and digital lending platforms (ESS).

Key Competencies:

  • Exceptional negotiation, C-level stakeholder management, and institutional relationship-building skills.

  • Strong business acumen with a proven track record in market penetration and revenue growth.

  • Data-driven decision-making and portfolio risk management capabilities.
