The Aga Khan Education Services, Tanzania (AKES, T) operates three schools, from nursery to secondary levels. Each school aims to provide a quality education that will impart a broad set of personal and intellectual skills which develop independent inquiry and critical thinking abilities. The origins of the Aga Khan schools in Tanzania go back to the 19th century when a girls’ school was started around 1905 in Zanzibar by Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah Aga Khan III. The focus of AKES in Tanzania is to implement educational programs that are designed to assist students in acquiring life skills and intellectual foundations that will enable them to make their way confidently in a world increasingly characterised by globalisation and technological advancement. To meet the needs of diverse communities, AKES in Tanzania operates schools which run both National -NECTA and International curricula International Baccalaureate -IB and IGCSE International General Certificate of Secondary Education.

Safety and Security Officer (SSO)

Position Summary

Officer, the Safety and Security Officer (SSO) will coordinate all safety and security services for Aga Khan Schools, in Dar es Salaam and deliver safety, security, and risk management services, and plans. The SSO will also act as an advisor to the Senior Management Team and school safety & security committees, on all matters related to safety and security for AKES, Tanzania schools.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively assess and manage safety and security risks at all schools
• Be a focal point in preparing and responding to security and safety incidents
• Assess the physical infrastructure for safety and security risks and propose mitigation measures
• Conduct audits of the schools and create and manage remedial action plans.
• Develop and implement the organization’s strategic safety and security plans.
• Establish close relationships with stakeholders and law enforcement authorities
• Develop and maintain a strong contextual understanding of all areas of operations.
• Train, manage and assess the performance of private security service at the school
• Investigate and resolve security breaches at the schools

Position Requirement Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in security studies or security risk management.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety and security management at a similar level.
• Certification by ASIS International as a Certified Protection Professional or equivalent
• Should be certified in facility security management and incident management
• Possess professional maturity, sensitivity to different cultures, and impeccable integrity that exemplify AKES/ AKS’s values
• Experience in school risk management environment.
