Position: Relief Coordinator 

Base Location: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

Contract Duration: One Year with possibility of extension

Job Summary:

The Relief Coordinator will lead and coordinate humanitarian relief operations in Tanzania, ensuring timely, effective, and accountable delivery of assistance to affected communities. This role requires strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills to manage multi-sectoral relief activities in collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, and local partners.

Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Oversee the humanitarian needs at the country level including management of relief projects, contingency planning, project finances, and logistics and security to create a string foundation for emergency programming. 
  2. Lead rapid needs assessments during emergencies, disasters, and crisis situations in collaboration with government authorities and local partners.
  3. Coordinate the design and implementation of emergency response projects (food assistance, NFIs, shelter, WASH, health).
  4. Ensure proper targeting of vulnerable populations including women, children, elderly, and persons with disabilities.
  5. Establish a clear strategy and direction for emergency relief programming in Tanzania in coloration with the program team.
  6. Design, develop, resource (people and funds), and implement emergency response programs that meet the near and longer-term program objectives needs of an affected  community.
  7. Ensure effective management & implementation of emergency relief project (s) and administration of project finances, including adherence to Qatar Charity (QC’s) and donors’ guidelines.
  8. In line with the guidance from QC relief department – HQ, preparation of relief proposals, project cards, and associated budgets.
  9. Submit monthly and occasional progress reports, progress against objectives, services delivered, maintaining the beneficiaries’ database, caseload data, achievement to date, and impact stories
  10. Ensure compliance with humanitarian standards (Sphere, Core Humanitarian Standards).
  11. Represent Qatar Charity in coordination meetings, joint assessments, and sectoral working groups.
  12. Oversee the distribution of food, NFIs, and other relief items in an accountable and transparent manner
  13.  Ensure safeguarding and PSEA standards are integrated and applied by staff and partners.
  14. Ensure beneficiary feedback and complaint mechanisms are functional and accessible.
  15. Produce assessment reports, situation reports, distribution reports, and donor reports.
  16. Maintain accurate data on beneficiaries, items distributed, and resources utilized.
  17. Document best practices, lessons learned, and case studies for knowledge management.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, Humanitarian Studies, Social Sciences, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in humanitarian relief, emergency response, or development programs.
  • Strong knowledge of humanitarian principles, disaster management, and donor compliance.
  • Experience working in East Africa or similar contexts is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; Swahili proficiency highly desirable.
  • Ability to work under pressure in challenging environments.
  • Strong expertise in conducting needs assessments and delivering capacity-building initiatives.
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, implementation, and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse community groups.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other project management tools.
