Job Purpose Statement

The Reinsurance Manager provides technical reinsurance support to ensure NCBA Insurance effectively manages risk exposure, secures appropriate treaty and facultative protection, and maintains financial stability. The role oversees the placement, renewal, servicing, and monitoring of reinsurance programs in alignment with underwriting rules, statutory obligations, and internal governance. Additionally, the role manages reinsurance accounting, claims recoveries, and reporting.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

• Reinsurance Technical Support & Placement:

  • Evaluate policy portfolios to establish retention levels, risk transfer solutions, and reinsurance needs.

  • Analyze underwriting data, risk exposures, and historical loss trends to recommend treaty and facultative arrangements.

• Reinsurance Operations & Accounting:

  • Execute, renew, and document reinsurance treaties and set up system parameters accurately.

  • Reconcile reinsurance premiums, commissions, claims, and counterparty balances.

  • Prepare contractual, regulatory, and internal management reports.

• Claims Recoveries & Servicing:

  • Coordinate claims notifications and track recovery settlements with reinsurers and brokers.

  • Reconcile recoveries with the Claims and Finance teams to resolve delayed or disputed balances.

  • Support reserving calculations and unearned premium considerations.

• Audit, Compliance & Governance:

  • Enforce strict adherence to treaty terms, delegated authority limits, internal controls, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and audit trails for internal and external reviews.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements

• Professional Qualifications:

  • Professional insurance certifications such as ACII, AIIK, or equivalent.

  • At least 3 years in a senior specialist, supervisory, or managerial capacity.
