Duty Station: Dar es Salaam/ Zanzibar

Reports To: Programs Manager

Job Purpose

The Health Projects Officer will be responsible for the overall coordination, supervision, and follow-up of the implementation of two specialized health projects: Eye Campaign Project, and the Cochlear Implant Project. The post holder will support beneficiary selection, monitor implementation progress, conduct field and health facility visits, prepare workplans and timelines, coordinate with relevant stakeholders, and submit timely reports throughout the three-month contract period.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the day-to-day implementation of the two health projects in line with approved plans, budgets, and timelines.
  • Prepare detailed workplans, activity schedules, implementation timelines, and tracking tools for both projects.
  • Coordinate with hospitals, clinics, specialist doctors, medical teams, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Support and oversee the identification, registration, screening, and selection of eligible beneficiaries based on approved criteria and medical priorities.
  • Ensure transparency, accuracy, and fairness in the beneficiary selection and verification process.
  • Organize and conduct regular visits to health facilities, project sites, partner institutions, and service delivery points to follow up on implementation progress and quality of services.
  • Monitor the performance of service providers and ensure that medical interventions are carried out according to agreed standards and project objectives.
  • Follow up on the scheduling and completion of eye examinations, eye surgeries, cochlear implant assessments, surgeries, and post-operative follow-up where applicable.
  • Maintain proper project documentation, including beneficiary records, screening results, visit notes, activity reports, attendance lists, and medical referral records, as applicable.
  • Identify implementation risks, operational challenges, and delays, and propose practical solutions in a timely manner.
  • Prepare periodic progress reports, field visit reports, summary updates, and final project reports for management.
  • Track project indicators, outputs, and achievements against targets and report any deviations.
  • Ensure close coordination with internal departments such as programs, finance, logistics, procurement, and administration to facilitate timely implementation.
  • Support the preparation of project-related correspondence, official letters, and coordination documents when required.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational procedures, donor requirements, medical ethics, safeguarding standards, and relevant local regulations.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the position.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Management, Hospital Administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in managing, coordinating, or supervising health or medical projects.
  • Previous experience in specialized health interventions, medical campaigns, surgical outreach, disability-related health services, or hospital coordination is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in beneficiary identification, screening, selection, and field-level follow-up.
  • Strong skills in project planning, scheduling, implementation follow-up, and report writing.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with medical professionals, health institutions, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of health service delivery standards, patient confidentiality, and professional ethics.
  • Strong monitoring and documentation skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coordination skills.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic and/or Swahili is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to health facilities and project sites during the contract period.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
