These carbon offsets are generated through the actions of local Tanzanian communities conserving and managing their indigenous trees and forests.
Central to Carbon Tanzania’s innovative conservation approach is a fundamental respect for local community land rights.
Carbon Tanzania is looking for a dynamic operations manager to work within a growing
company. The operations manager will be responsible for the coordination of Carbon Tanzania (CT) operations across all project sites within Tanzania. The ideal candidate will have 5 plus years of experience in community engagement with knowledge of forest laws and land use planning. The candidate should be able to engage with communities and village governments, district and regional government staff, and project partners. The position is based in Arusha, reporting directly to the operations director and working closely with the finance director and CEO.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Remotely manage and coordinate operations and field staff in REDD community-based forest carbon projects across multiple projects spread throughout rural environments in Tanzania
- Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control and conduct regular visits and oversight while still supporting staff and community autonomy and ownership
- Ensure back-and-forth flow of information and communications with staff, communities, partners, and other stakeholders at the project and national level, keeping projects dynamic, participatory, transparent, and relevant.
- Coordinate with government authorities and partners on overlapping activities, strategies, interests, and to enhance project function in line with company principles and international compliance mechanisms and standards.
- Ensure projects achieve the benchmarks of forest conservation and community benefits required for issuance of Verified Emission Reductions (carbon credits)
- Host and coordinate any official visits to the projects
- Strive to improve and innovate in conservation, governance benefit-sharing
- Support all verification visits and activities
- Report on project operations to Directors
- Represent Carbon Tanzania at local and global events, meetings, etc.
- Oversee the project monitoring team
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Strong experience (minimum of 5 years) working within community-based
conservation and the forest sector - Strong experience engaging with local government and national government agencies
- Bachelors Degree / Masters degree in subjects related to natural resource-based or community development
- Excellent interpersonal and team building skills including delegating responsibilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Exceptional time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Problem solving attitude
- Proficiency in English and Swahili as working languages
The contract duration is performance-based with a one-year duration, the deadline for this application is 1st September 2022, with a start date of 1st October 2022.
The compensation system will be commensurate with experience and appropriate for the operations manager of a small to medium enterprise.
