Position: Head of Brand & Trade Marketing

Role Purpose

To achieve business goals and brand saliency by devising strategies for the Tanzania Operation, in line with the overall brand strategy and subsequently plan and implement the same at the country level. Oversee and lead the brand portfolio and support attainment of Commercial outcomes through demand-led brand initiatives. Drive capture of market share and enhance revenues

Key Responsibilities:

1.Support development of the Airtel Tanzania brand and manage the brand across the brand lifecycle

Provide strategic inputs and support Marketing Director in developing value proposition around the Airtel Tanzania Brand (Brand Architecture, Values) and developing the overall brand strategy.
Oversee that the Airtel Tanzania brand is aligned with the Airtel brand (core values of the brand remain the same)
Support the Marketing Director in ensuring consistency in brand communication across touch points/segments/channels.
Monitor and maintain brand equity scores/ other parameters that reflect health of the brand and undertake actions/initiatives to enhance brand value.
Proactively capture insights on changing market dynamics/ consumer perceptions to ensure continued effectiveness of the brand.
Provide strategic inputs to Marketing Director and the top team on critical decisions on brand deployment, like finalizing ads/ brand ambassadors and partnerships/ tie-ups with causes/ events etc.
Provide strategic inputs to Marketing Director in developing the overall marketing strategy for Airtel Tanzania (including aspects such as market segmentation)
Support CSD team in designing material such as customer acquisition forms, subscriber user kits, interactive voice recorders in line with the overall brand

2.Optimum utilization branding Marketing budget

Develop the annual plan and budget for the department in line with the overall marketing strategy.
Estimate overall marketing communication/media requirements/schedule for the year in line with the overall marketing plan, commercial launch targets, operations, and sales plans.
Prioritizing and focusing on key high business impact activities
Plan and monitor marketing costs.
Understanding the business needs of the operation and subsequently ensuring optimum utilization of available financial resources.
Ensure that the optimum SOV (Share of Voice) is maintained as the marketing communication budget of the competition is relatively higher than ours

3.To achieve highest standards of brand saliency through TOMA (Top of Mind Awareness) & ITP (Intention to Purchase) Targets

Developing relevant, clear & easy to understand communication that drives consumers to make Airtel their first choice.
To identify the key strengths of competition and plan key tactics to get improvement on TOMA.
Decide on the creative direction for operation/ local communication direction to be given in line with the brand clearly stated guidelines

4.Direct development and delivery of the marketing message across various channels/media of communication as per set targets

Direct the team to study the marketing operations plan for and assess opportunities and threats.
Provide guidance to assess the business parameters that exist in the market to enable mapping out the existing and expected competition in the market in complete detail.
Review and analyze the overall marketing and branding strategy and customer segmentation and draw insights from them to develop a detailed marketing communications strategy/plan and specific messages for the OpCo.
Oversee deployment of the marketing communications/ messages across customer segments in the OpCo
Monitor performance/effectiveness of the deployed marketing and branding messages and incorporate learnings to refine them.
Manage the marcom budget in terms of buys, benchmarking, and control

5.Monitor bound & quality delivery by the vendors.

Effectively direct and review the vendors and agencies performance constantly seeking value addition – through quality and cost.
Track vendor SLAs and ensure adherence.
Enforce contract specific sanctions in case of violations

6.Drive all national brand initiatives at the country level & ensure brand visibility support to the Sales team through on-shop visibility and outdoor advertising.

Ensure complete understanding of the key expectations from the brand and align team to this.
Mobilize regional teams and drive all activities supporting national brand initiatives.
Recommend available resources for key activities monthly.
Facilitate meetings with the Zonal Business Managers and develop a clear Visibility Matrix
Direct team to ensure Retail & Outdoor marketing is executed at the ground level

7.Build a capable and motivated team at Airtel Tanzania to create a high-performance team environment

Recruit the right talent in consultation with function head, as per defined recruitment guidelines.
Provide inspirational leadership and coaching for team members.
Establish performance expectations and regularly review individual performance

8.Any other duties as assigned by Marketing Director

Qualifications and Experience.

Educational Qualifications & Functional / Technical Skills

Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Marketing, Mass Communication, or related discipline
Professional Qualifications in advertising, Marketing & Communication will be an added advantage.

Relevant Experience;

10+ years of work experience in a similar industry / organization; some work experience in advertising agency will be an added advantage.
A minimum of 4 years in Management role.
