Pretoria was named after Voortrekker leader Andries Pretorius. South Africans often refer to it as the “Jacaranda City” because of the thousands of jacaranda trees planted along its streets and in its parks and gardens.
The province also contains the country’s largest city, Johannesburg which is situated at 26°12′16″S 28°2′44″E
Gauteng is home to South Africa’s three biggest soccer teams Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns and boasts several of the country’s biggest venues in Ellis Park, the Wanderers and Loftus Versfeld.
