Every year, Tanzanian students transitioning from Form Four (Ordinary Level) to Form Five (Advanced Level) select subject combinations that will define their academic path and future career prospects. Traditionally, these combinations were pre-determined by the National Examinations Council of https://www.tamisemi.go.tz/Tanzania (NECTA). However, President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) has introduced Form five Combination for the 2024 academic year onwards. This system offers students more flexibility in choosing their Form Five subject combinations, referred to as “Combination Mpya” (New Combination).
Understanding the New Combinations
The new combinations offer students the opportunity to specialize in areas that are in line with the current job market and future trends. This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education and ensuring that students are well-prepared for the challenges of the future.

The combinations are grouped into seven categories based on subject areas:
A: Social Sciences (History, Geography, Kiswahili, English, French, Arabic, Chinese, Economics, Fasihi ya Kiswahili [Kiswahili Literature])
B: Languages (Kiswahili, English, French, Arabic, Chinese)
C: Business and Mathematics (Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, Computer Science, Mathematics)
D: Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Mathematics, Computer Science, Agriculture, Food and Human Nutrition)
E: Sports (Biology, Food and Human Nutrition, Sports, English, Kiswahili, Fasihi ya Kiswahili, Literature in English, French, Arabic)
F: Arts (Kiswahili, English, French, Fasihi ya Kiswahili, Literature in English, Theatre Arts, Music, Fine Art)
G: Islamic Knowledge/Divinity (Islamic Knowledge, Divinity, History, Geography, Arabic, English, Kiswahili)
