GENERAL INFORMATION

Global Green Growth Institute Internship for Climate Finance to support the EAC

Duration: 6 months, starting date ideally 1st of November
Duty Station: Arusha, Tanzania

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD$500 per month. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.
Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships. This is only relevant for interns that are still in an academic program.
Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.
Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

The objective of the internship is to give you a first-hand experience of the day-to-day working at GGGI. The Internship Program is a project-oriented learning opportunity for graduate students to gain experience through research assignments based on GGGI’s current operational needs. GGGI welcomes motivated, open-minded, and self-directed individuals to apply. You will be given an opportunity to work directly with outstanding and inspiring Green Growth professionals, participate in workshops and meetings, and contribute to analytical work as well as innovative rethinking on sustainable green growth. Interns will be selected based on merit and cannot be children or siblings of current GGGI staff members.

Can you be a GGGI intern?

You are enrolled in a Master’s or in a Ph.D. program, OR you have completed Masters or PHD Degree in last 12 months
You are committed and available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the contracted period in the GGGI office or any other mutually agreed upon location within Kampala
You have excellent command of English.

The Project

The EAC-NDC Partnership project is designed to foster the development of a regional NDC strategy and mobilize climate finance in East Africa. It aims to bridge the climate and green growth financing gap among the EAC Partner States by enhancing the alignment of regional NDC implementation strategy and mobilization and deployment of climate finance. The project is funded by NDC Partnership and implemented by GGGI in collaboration with East Africa Community Secretariat.

Current Opportunity

We are looking for a talented individual to work with us to support the East African Community. The Climate Finance Intern will play a pivotal role in fostering the development of regional NDC implementation strategies and building an enabling environment for climate finance mobilization in East Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for aligning regional climate actions with financial strategies to bridge the existing climate and green growth financing gap in the East African Community.

The Assignment

1) Research and Analysis

Assist in data collection and analysis to identify potential areas for climate finance mobilization.
Conduct research to support the development of the EAC NDC Roadmap

2) Project Implementation and Coordination

Assist in the implementation of the project plans and initiatives.
Coordinate with various stakeholders and partners to ensure smooth project progression.

3) Reporting and Documentation:

Assist in the preparation of project reports and documentation.
Monitor project activities and develop regular updates and briefs.

4) Stakeholder Engagement and Networking:

Assist in organizing workshops, meetings, and conferences with stakeholders and partners.
Build and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders in the climate finance sector.

5) Support to the EAC Climate change interventions

Assist in supporting ongoing climate change interventions at EAC
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification

The candidate has either completed a Masters or Ph.D. program in the past 12 months, or is currently enrolled in a Masters or Ph.D. Such should be in Environmental Science, Climate Studies, Development Studies (or another relevant field).
A deep understanding of climate finance mechanisms and sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Excellent research and analytical skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and within a team.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented with good organizational skills
Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office
