Job Purpose
The Branch Credit Analyst is responsible for reviewing, challenging, and approving credit applications within a delegated lending mandate. The role ensures independent, high-quality credit decisions that balance business growth with prudent risk management. The incumbent provides oversight on credit assessments prepared by analysts, enforces policy adherence, and acts as a final control point for credit risk acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Approval & Risk Decisioning (60%)

Review, evaluate, and approve or decline credit applications within delegated lending authority limits.

Critically assess proposals submitted by Credit Analysts to ensure accurate financial analysis, risk evaluation, and full compliance with credit policies.

Identify key risks, mitigating factors, and conditions precedent to approval.

Align all credit decisions with Retail Credit Policy, approved risk appetite frameworks, and regulatory requirements.

Escalate applications exceeding delegated authority and decline deficient applications with clear, actionable feedback.

Monitor portfolio concentration risks, industry exposures, and emerging portfolio trends.

Enforce strict controls to prevent fraud, misrepresentation, and policy breaches.

Validate that suspended branches/restricted customers are not processed and that due diligence and employer confirmations are complete.

Participate in Credit Committees and approval forums as required.
2. Oversight of Credit Assessment Process (10%)

Provide guidance, coaching, and constructive challenge to Credit Analysts on complex or high-risk applications.

Ensure consistency, quality, and adherence to credit underwriting standards across all assessments.

Support continuous enhancement of credit assessment methodologies, tools, and processes.

Review structured lending and secured credit proposals to confirm the robustness of risk mitigants.
3. Loan Structuring & Conditions Management (10%)

Determine appropriate facility structures, repayment terms, pricing recommendations, and risk mitigation requirements.

Ensure collateral and security arrangements are adequate, enforceable, and aligned with credit policies.

Define and approve conditions for collateral perfection, legal documentation, insurance coverage, and valuations.

Ensure all conditions precedent are fulfilled prior to facility disbursement.
4. Stakeholder Engagement (5%)

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Legal, Treasury, Security Management Unit, Branch Network, and Business Units.

Ensure alignment on facility structuring, collateral requirements, documentation, and disbursement readiness.

Provide timely, clear, and constructive feedback on credit decisions to support turnaround times and service delivery.
5. Portfolio Risk Monitoring & Governance (10%)

Monitor approved credit facility performance and identify emerging portfolio risks.

Support portfolio reviews, risk remediation initiatives, and early warning strategies.

Contribute to credit policy development, periodic reviews, and risk appetite calibration.

Recommend actions to strengthen portfolio quality and manage overall risk exposure.
6. Compliance & Regulatory Adherence (5%)

Ensure all approvals comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

Stay current with regulatory developments and credit risk best practices.

Support internal/external audit activities and ensure timely closure of audit findings.

Maintain comprehensive and accurate approval records for auditability and transparency.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
-
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in Credit Risk, Credit Underwriting, Lending Operations, Banking, or a related financial services environment.
