St. Constantine International School (SCIS) was founded in 1951 and is the oldest international school in Tanzania, as well as the largest international school in northern Tanzania. We are a not-for-profit, non-denominational, co-educational, day and boarding, international school. We are predominantly a Cambridge International School, following the EYFS programme in Early Years and then the Cambridge International Programme from Years 1 to 9. In Years 10 and 11, students study the Cambridge IGCSEs and, in Years 12 and 13, they mainly study the Cambridge A-level programme. We are also proud members of Round Square.

We currently serve 600 students (including around 70 boarders aged 6 – 18) from over 30 different countries. Our Main (Burka) Campus (where our boarding house is located) has gorgeous gardens and playing fields, sitting in beautiful tree-lined surroundings under Africa’s 5th highest mountain, Mount Meru, on the world-class northern game park circuit. Our smaller Town Campus, which runs parallel classes to our Main Campus from Nursery to Year 2, is in a delightful setting just outside the CBD, with spacious classrooms, wonderful mountain views and a lovely family feel. We have just recently opened the Dar es Salaam Campus right at the heart of the city to host A-levels.

We are seeking a dynamic colleague who is committed to the busy life of an international school striving to be the top school in East Africa to oversee the Dar es Salaam campus as the Assistant Head Teacher. The successful candidate’s day-to-day responsibility will be teaching and learning, pastoral care, the co-curriculum, staff welfare, and management of the Dar Campus, under the leadership of the School Principal/Headteacher. The Head of Dar Campus is expected to provide engaging educational leadership that encourages students and staff to strive for excellence and work collaboratively to fulfil the school’s vision and mission. This will require the Head of Dar Campus to manage constructive change, embrace change, and support new and innovative approaches to learning and teaching.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of IGCSE or A-Level teaching essential (or its international equivalent).
  • Experience of A-Level coordination would be an advantage (or its international equivalent).
  • University counselling would be an advantage.
  • Student counselling would be an advantage.
  • Middle management or higher would be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • The Head of Dar Campus is expected to:
  • Promote and contribute to the school’s aims (mission, vision, values, policies).
  • Promote a positive school culture that is happy, purposeful and productive.
  • Work with and develop the School’s Strategic Plan.
  • Liaise closely with the Headteacher, especially on strategic matters.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Encourage consultation and liaise effectively with all staff, especially with the Arusha campus.
  • Liaise directly with the City of London Freemen’s School.
  • Support students, teachers and other school employees.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and students.
  • Contribute to the induction process for both students and staff.
  • Encourage high standards in all aspects of school life.
  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required.
